Monster Mopar out Mega Mopar Action in at Gateway?
« on: November 24, 2012 - 02:38:45 PM »
Well, judging by Gateway's own website, it looks like Monster Mopar is out, Mopar action series is in at Gateway http://www.gatewaymsp.com/images/2013manufacturersseriesevents.pdf     Mopar action series advertises an autocross and Gateway will get better magazine coverage again. I still miss Scott Sieveking's gang running the show for some strange reason...

Yup, they stole the show from Josh.  Most people are boycotting the show.

Just what we need. A Mopar show run by the Super Chevy guys. Not for me, I'll be going to Josh's shows.

Hate to say it but any Mopar show this close to St. Louis, I'm going to. I raced at Gateway for 10 years and my daughter and I both won a track championship there. I'll be there with one of my cars.  I'll see you there RYAN....

Isn't this a all car show and not just mopars?  I really would consider going if it was all mopar but I am not traveling 9 hours to go see a bunch of fords and chevys . . . . .  :grinno:

Yeah, it is called the Super Chevy show.

Well I know nobody else is going from anywhere around here.  We're all boycotting it.

I'll be at Indy in June though.

Hmmm, not just Mopars? If I wanted an all make car show, I'll go to the Street Machine Nationals. Looks like I'm not going either. I do have my vacation scheduled for Carlisle, Columbus and Indy, so that is my plan.

Where do you see that it's not just a Mopar show?

I have not personally seen that it is not all MOPAR but the word going around is it is not.  They were trying to get the MOPAR show there but the spot went to someone other than the monster MOPAR group and the show that took the spot is not all MOPAR.

I will shoot for other shows that are all MOPAR as that is what I want to see.  I want to go to the Canada show this year but only if there is a lot of members going . . . .

Looks like it is a Mopar only show. It is presented by Mopar Action which is affiliated with Super Chevy. That is where the confusion may be. I'll probably pass anyway based on the way they pushed Josh out. I can't blame the local guys for going. I probably would too if I was local.

When checking out the Gateway event calendar earlier this year I noticed the change from Monster-Mopar to Mega-Mopar but I just thought that they retitled the same event that had been going on there for a while. I didn not realize that it was a completely different organization that was putting on the show.

Gateway is practically in my own backyard so I go there just about every time there is a Mopar or a good drag racing event. As we all know, the track has been having a financial issues the past couple of years so I do my little part to try and help support it so hopefully it can stay open. So I'm sure I'll be going again. After all it seems to me that an event named Mega-Mopar would, or should, be exclusively all about Mopars shouldn't it? I don't know why they would call it Mega-Mopar and then make it open to all other makes and models, that doesn't make sense to me.

I've been out of the loop for a while so I don't know who Josh is, but apparently he has a lot of loyal supporters. I can see that here and I get the same vibe from some of the locals I've talked to here in St Lou. Why there is only one "slot" for a Mopar show I don't know, the track is idle a lot of the time and it seems that if they wanted to have an early and late Mopar show they certainly could.

I guess with the way the track is struggling it all comes down to the bottom line - money. I would hate to see the Mega-Mopar event be a bust cause then perhaps it wouldn't be back next year or any Mopar event at all for that matter and that would be a shame. But I understand loyalty and Josh, whoever he is, is fortunate to have a bunch of supporters like he does.
Cheers!

I'm only interested if there's an autocross/road course event.  The drag racing bores me;  the show cars are ok, as well as the swap stuff.  I'll go out-of my way for a Mopar autocross...  on-track is my kind of "show".

I have family in the StLouis area, so, driving from Chicago to Gateway is easy for me.

I helped organize the Monster Mopar Weekend all-Mopar autocross for Josh King's event last INDY Sept, 2012... it was a huge success despite last-minute planning (~30 days)...plans are tentative for the INDY MMW this coming June 28-30, 2013 event to again hold the all-Mopar autocross.
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!

See  MOPAR ACTION MAGAZINE, AUGUST 2006 ISSUE for featured article and details on my autocross T/A.
