Neil has mentioned it, but it's the large snap ring under the can.  I don't think that's it as it wouldn't work in either direction.  It's worth a closer inspection to be sure while you have the can off anyway.
The snap ring under the can acts on a plastic tang that releases the plastic catch that holds the turn signal switch on. There is one for the left signal and one for the right signal. My money is on the left tang being broken.

Maybe this photo will help.  There is only one cancellation post.  It is the coil or snap ring as Neil said.  Sorry for the poor picture--it is a file photo from my restoration.

Here's some better angle photos of a columns I restored...
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Any luck solving the problem?  If you're still having some issues, post a few photos and I'm sure one of us can help you with a solution.  :2thumbs:

yes the the spring was clocked wrong you might have to go 3/4 of a turn or a bit more to cancel

I did.  Somehow the cancelling "arm" of the turn signal switch for the left side got bent so the spring on the bottom of the crush can wasnt catching it to make it cancel.
