intake question?

right now I have a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. I want to change it to something lower. Hood clearance is just to tight. I'm not to concerned with high rpm peak HP as the car is street driven with 3.23 gears. Any thoughts?

I have a regular performer manifold I just took off when I moved up to the RPM. PM me if interested.

I used a shorter element and my AC fit under the hood. You might want to look into that. As far as other low rise manifolds many say the Holley Street Dominator is good if you can find one.

Everything I've read has the Air Gap Edelbrock as the best intake up to about 6000, bar none. However, I don't know if it's higher/lower than the straight Performer. I'd call or email Edelbrock as they'll have the heights. What about a dropped base AC?  :dunno:

Performer is junk, IMO

Find an old LD340 intake

The Holley sits lower yet but I think you be happier with the LD340 or something similar. There is lots on older intakes on Ebay, really the 1969-70 340 factory intakes work pretty good, they are heavy thou but once its on whats 30 more lbs...its putting it on or off that is the back killler, lol

What engine Joe ?
 the 440 performer is a paper weight at best , Holley Street Dom 300-14 is the best for a big block
 Small block is a totaly different game RPM air gap is great , LD340 is one of the best

I have an oval air cleaner I made that uses a KN filter. I still only have a 1/4" clearance with the stock hood. The 440 had Performer aluminum heads. Right now I have a AAR hood but I'm going back to the stock hood. The regular Performer has the casting for the choke which I won't use. All the things I've seen about the Holley says it's great but is it that much lower than the RPM?

Yes , the Holley Street Dom is a lot lower than the RPM  & is the intake I choose to use most often . I generally do a lot of porting to them , blending the port roof up into the plenum area , opening up the plenums , narrowing the dividing walls between the ports in the plenum & port matching the head side of the intake .
 Do not even think of using the Performer intake on a 440 , it is worse than the factory cast iron intake

I used the Holley street dominator on both my 440 and the new 451" Works good and I can close my hood!  :grinyes:

Is the RPM better than the performer? I have the TM6 on mine and will be changing it in the future.

the 440 Performer is a door stop , the RPM is a much better but tall intake , I still like the Street Dom best unless you are at higher RPM whee the M1 single plane works great

RB versionis  still available new. It's my understanding the B block version is not being produced anymore so you will have to find a used one.
