70 cuda clutch problem
« on: June 28, 2002 - 01:47:14 PM »
Hi all,Brian here. I have a 70 340 pistol grip 4 speed cuda. It has been modified by previous owner. Presently has a Mcleod clutch and plate. It is very stiff to push in,but is strong and doesnt slip or burn.My problem is that the clutch fork seems to be slipping off the release bearing on one or the other of the two contact points. Not sure if its because of the stiffness in clutch and it is bending the linkage out, or if i need to go so a milder clutch?? The fork will work but i dont feel comfortable driving it. Nothing seems to be bent in there. Has new release bearing and it is all well lubricated on the input shaft. What do u think????

Sounds like something is wrong or mismatched even the Hd McLeods don`t bend the linkage ;)

Cuda Brian here and im responding to my own question!  I found the problem with clutch, it was that the wrong clutch fork clip (that attaches to the bell housing, and holds clutch fork in place) was put on by the previous owner. It has made the clutch a lot easyier to push in and much smoother. Just need to set the cluch up a little better and i think im a happy camper. Till next time keep it MOPAR!!!!

Hi all u mopar fans.Cuda Brian here got my clutch figured out, it had to much free play. Amazing the diference an adjustment makes. I can tell its working well now by the nice long double strip of rubber i left behind! Shifts smooth, keep it real keep it MOPAR!!!!
