440 cam choice
« on: December 03, 2012 - 04:02:04 PM »
I have KB 237 pistons, Performer RPM intake, 750cfm 3310, planning on using 440 source heads.
4 sp trans.
What would a good cam choice be? I'd like a decent idle and bottom end is more important to me than top end.
Also, are roller rockers a good place to spend a few more  $ instead of the stock rockers?

I had almost the same combo.I used the comp 268 cam.Worked well and just the right idle.I would also look into the 303 voodoo. It has a little more lift and the idle should be about the same as the comp cam.I also had comp roller rockers that worked nice. They are priced thru the roof now.

Do you just want a hyd cam ? VooDoo 3 bolt is a good call .
Factory rockers are not very accurate as far as artio & it reduces wear in the guide < PRW has stainless rockers for decent pricing

Went to prw website and they have no listing for Mopar?
Or I'm blind maybe?
Which Voodoo 3 bolt would you recommend? 303?

One of a few listed , available in 1.5 , 1.6 or 1.7 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/PRW-BB-Mopar-383-440-Stainless-Steel-Shaft-Mount-Roller-Rocker-Arms-1-6-Ratio-/380468333072?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5895ae0a10&vxp=mtr
we need to do some math , what is your rear gear ratio & tires size , you do not want to be under the powerband @ 70 mph for example , , I doubt you will be & th e4spd is far more forgiving as you do not have to keep the converter locked up . overall the 303 is a great cam

I see aluminium rockers available from several vendors. Are aluminium rockers ok? I'm thinking about weight here.

Brad, what are those 'lunati' plates spanning between lifters for? Seems to me like more mass to move around.  :dunno:

They are roller lifters, keeps them from rotating.

IMO in a street engine I would not use alum rockers , Stainless or iron . Supposedly Harlands last but they cost a LOT more then regular alum rockers

Well if Aluminium doesn't last, I don't want it. Are they pretty much race only? A few passes then replace?

I have seen them fail , there are different grades of alum Crane Golds are used a lot but I have had problems with them , they can last years , depends on the spring load & keeping them lashed & not having adjuster failures etc  , the PRW are good for the $$ , Crane Iron are great but not available new right now I believe as Crane has been through financial problems so  a lot of their products are not available  now  .

:eek7:  I don't like the sounds of that? Mine are aluminum, and for what they cost they better last!  :faint:
