« on: December 07, 2012 - 07:16:10 PM »
thinking about a 5 speed for the challenger but not sure. $2000 for a rebuilt 4 speed unit and around $4500 for a 5 speed.alot of money for another gear. for that money i could almost buy a 4 speed and a dana 60 :burnout:

Plus... there is not a direct, bolt in solution for a 5 speed that will not require major tunnel surgury. So factory in a few day sof cutting and welding to restore structural integrity to the tunnel and t-bars cross member.

Easier solution for that $2500 price increase is to add a Gear Vendors divorced OD unit.

Overdrive is great if you intend to drive the car on the highway, regardless of how you get there.  I do not have any experience with the Gears Vendor OD but hear good things about them.  As noted above, the 5 speed requires some minor mods to install but this is a standard swap and not a big problem.   Either solution beats not having an overdrive gear for cruising without going to a 2.76 or 3.23 rear gear.

yeah im thinking i will not be blasting down the highway at 70 mph just around town and some nice back roads. also could allways swap in a passon 5-speed later without to much hassle, so i think the 18 spline
4 gear will work for now. maybe i should upgrade the bell housing now as well??

also did anyone here ever install a TTI exhaust system with the 3" spring locate?? im asking because the shocks look like they would be very close to the tail pipes.
