Ordered a set since I'm right at the point of no return.  Better safe than sorry right?

I just cut out my XV braces.  I used a sawzall at the firewall and a plasma cutter at the shock tower.  When I finally got the passenger side off, there was just a bit of the previous weld on the cut edge of the brace, and it caught my thumb just as it came free and now I have 14 stitches holding my skin together!!  Lucky for me no tendon, nerve or ligament damage.  Now I have to wait until next week to weld them in.  I cant get a break.   :violin:

I got my braces welded in today.  Had to do a little grind to fit, and a little persuasion with hammer at times, but they went in pretty good.  Some of the welding was difficult.  The edges of the inner fender on the top of the brace melted away pretty easy.  I had to really pay attention to technique to get a nice solid bead there.  Overhead welding from a thick piece of brace to thinner sheet metal resulted in a small hole in the inner fender on the pass side on my initial pass.  Now I have to clean up the fall through on the engine compartment side to make it one step closer to paint.  They sure sit higher than the XV ones I removed.   About 2 inches higher.  Now I have no worries about tire clearance with a lowered front end.  Time will prove it when I get further along.  Thanks to everyone who encouraged me to put these in.   J

Here is a few pictures.  Remember, I am not a welder/fabricator.  This is just a hobby to me, although I am attempting things on this build that I have never done before.  Like these braces.  Now I have to figure out how to make the inner fenders look good where the weld fall through is.

Looks good Jordan! I'll have to reference this thread when I weld mine in. I also ordered a set and the torque boxes to go with them. They were running a 10% winter discount for those thinking of doing the same. I spoke to Chris and he was very helpful and nice to deal with.

Looks good Jordan.  Did you leave the XV braces on the firewall and inner fender to shock tower braces when you installed the USCT brace?
