It was taken off the road in 1976 due to the car burning some oil.
Ron

Ron,

Following this thread I was always curious about something. I thought that maybe the question might have come up but I don't see anyone ever asking. So, the car started burning some oil, was taken off the road, and engine pulled for a rebuild in 1976 ... 37 years ago. Your brother gets part way through the engine rebuild and then just stops leaving the car apart ... for 37 years. How come you guys never finished putting the engine back together and back in the car? Like I said, just curious about that part of the story. So what happened?
Cheers!

Hi Tom
Yea i know it sounds a little crazy with the car pulled apart for 37 years
But I think My brother just lost interest and then got married with 4 children later and was in no rush to complete the car
plus I'm sure money was probably an issue as he knew how much it would cost to do a proper restoration
He did consider Julius the Grandfather of Mopar's Restorations to do the car.
If I recall the quote was over $100K to restore it.
so he wanted to do it right but time and money was not on his side.
He did not want it to rust away.
The fellow who purchased the car does great restorations and has had a few of his Mopar's in Mopar Action magazine
so I hope to see it one day in the magazine when is completed.

Just thought you guys might be curious what happened to this sweet ride.  Car has been restored and will be at the Mopars in the Park Car Show in Farmington, MN 5/31-6/1.  You can find it in the HEMI building.  Check out this link for some pictures https://www.facebook.com/1970hemichallengerRTSE?skip_nax_wizard=true

Car is now for sale ? I wonder what they feel it's worth.... :dunno:
I was tossing the idea around, but didn't feel it was a big money maker after restoring it....I still have a bunch of pre-restoration opics somewhere....

This car was restored by the same guy who did the paint and body on my car.  He is working at a different shop now.  Last August it was at the Mopars on the Mississippi show....just a painted shell.  The paint is really nice!  I wish he would have gone the primer overspray route though.  It's completely painted body color on the under side.

The shop just got done spraying a 71 Cuda as well.

It's nice to see projects like that get finished in a reasonably short pieord of time. You see so many cool projects just get bought up, but never finished :2thumbs:
