It's great to hear stories like that.  It gives us hope!  I've tried to put the potential side effects in the back of my mind because we need to focus on the present.  There's no point in worrying about the future at this point.  We need to get Owen healthy so he has a future to worry about.  I'm doing my best to take things one day at a time.  If I start thinking too far ahead I can't function.

I am gonna drop some in the mail on the way back from PT on Monday as long as the roads are not iced. If so, I will do it on weds.  Do not worry, I have a huge box of hot wheels under Shelby 's bed. I have been wanting to do something with them for years. And they are all Mopars.  I'm sure Owen will be delighted with them. My plan is to send a little at a time so he has something to look forward to.   I have PT 3 days a week, so maybe mail. 3 times a week ?

We still have trouble with Owen being in a bad mood when he wakes up from sedation every day.  Maybe knowing he can open a couple Hot Wheels cars(if he behaves) will help with that.  However, I'm afraid that sending a package every couple days will get way too expensive.  You can do whatever works for you but please don't spread yourself thin due to shipping costs.

As far as our money situation goes, so far we are OK.  It looks like a large portion of Owen's initial hospital bills have been covered by insurance.  As far as his cancer treatments are concerned, St Jude covers all costs that insurance does not.  This is an amazing place.  It's comforting to know that we have Owen in the right place.  No matter what happens, we know we are leaving nothing on the table.

My wife is going back to work very soon.  My job is still paying me a salary even though I'm not there.  They've said they will continue to pay me until Owen's radiation treatments are done.  Things are yet to be figured out once the second phase of Owen's treatments start but we are trying to come up with a solution that works for everyone.

Darren, If you want to give then to Owen has needed, I can send a whole bunch. And let you and your wife take care of giving them to him I know how tough it is being in the hospital for months at a time. I don't know if you know or not but my daughter, Shelby is an art major in college. She is taking printing making classes right now. and she wants to make a stamp for Owen of your Challenger. she said she can use your pic in your sig. We would like to send it to you with washable ink so Owen can stamp away while he is in the hospital or at home. if that is ok with and your wife.

Darren, Thanks for keeping us posted. I was waiting around on the Moparts thread wondering what was happening. I am glad to see all is well over here.

PS - What did you think of that NPR link I sent you? Just curious.

I'd heard of her story and had seen her on Conan.  I hadn't heard that interview though.  I laughed out loud when it got to the section you talked about.  That reminds me, I need to send that link to a friend of mine.  Thanks for sending it.

Tomorrow is Owen's 4th birthday.  We opened presents and ate cake today while grandma and grandpa were here.  After his treatment tomorrow, we will try and figure out something fun to do.  Owen's hair started falling out on Saturday.  It's really falling out now.  In the next few days I'm sure it will be all gone.  Does anyone know if they sell small Mopar knit hats with the "M" on them?  I havn't been able to find one.  I think I'll have to buy a plain white or black hat and get a Mopar patch to sew onto it.

Hey Darren, I just replied on Moparts but Happy Birthday to Owen!!

I posted this over there:
There was a TV commercial a few years back where the boy shaved his head for the girl. It would be really cool if you went through the "hair loss" process with him. I assume you have your hair still at this point.

I am glad that link brought a smile to your face. It really seemed like it could have that effect during all of this.

Keep him smiling!  :2thumbs:
