How many people are still alive because he had a concealed weapon?
« on: December 17, 2012 - 11:36:01 AM »
We all want an answers to the question WHY.  The Clackamas Mall shooting and the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting have one thing in common.  They both had the makings of being one of the worst mass shootings in history, but unlike the Sandy Hook shooting the Clackamas Mall shooter was confronted by a man (Nick Meli) with a concealed weapon.  Even though Nick did not pull the trigger, the shooter saw him pointing his weapon at him and apparently took his own life.  How is this guy not a hero?

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I suspect with all Mayan calendar hype and end of the world on the 21st this week will be quite active Situational awareness at all times for safety. Observe people and know your exits.

Ya that will never get "press" .... doesn't fit in with the controller/biased media/propaganda that tries to program us. It won't make them money or get votes. People are as smart as sheep for the most part. Easier to blame an inanimate object instead of the root of the problem. Easier for politicians to get there "hero cookies"  trying to ban something than to look into a mirror at the real problem.
I've read that there has never been more firearms around that after WWII yet this sort of thing while I'm sure did happen was very rare! What changed? Did the firearms change? Bullets changed? Nope they still come out the end of the barrel just as quick... hummm maybe peoples morality changed, everything is permissible in today's society, except accountability , responsibility, honesty and honour.
We (USA/Canada) have lost our moral compass, we have become a "me " society, greed and a sense of entitlement will consume us. I am a Christian ( and am VERY far from even close to "perfect") and don't/won't force my ideal's/beliefs on anyone but ask your self.... was it not better when as a majority we were a Christian society, lived by the 10 comandments and the Bible in our schools, towns, cities, courts, and political offices?  We have done our best to kick God out of our society and now we complain or are shocked with what we have now?  Sure some people have abused/distorted Christianity for selfish outcomes but was it not better?
Even if you don't believe in God or an other religious being it's a pretty good "road map" for a society, left to out own devises we will self destruct! I do believe the once  powerful  north American society is self-destructing from within and certainly will continue to do so unless we change course really quick. What made America prosper when it was born?  It was for the most part founded on Christian principles and quickly prospered.
I predict the Muslims will take over without firing a shot! but that's a different topic.....
Sorry if I "offended" anyone on here and I guess I did get a little off topic? But this has been on my chest and had to say something? This current shooting has left me feeling rather depressed and not in the Christmas spirit. If I thought getting rid of firearms was the answer I'd be out in the garage now running mine through the chop saw but it won't. There has yet to be made a gun that has killed someone, it always is one of us that pulls the trigger....  If it was legal for me to carry mine , I would!
I still consider you all friends even if you don't share my ideal's.

Brad I'm right there with ya but I think it goes a bit deeper than religion.

I believe it's part of the Plutocracy that is prevalent nowadays. Corporations run the government, give you your news and entertainment (almost one in the same now), and herd the cattle the most efficient way possible to maximize profits.

So you ask, how does this change peoples behaviors? Well for one you have both parents working, real wages decreasing over a decade plus, high unemployment, and a general downward trend in attitudes about their upward mobility. I'm not condoning anyones actions but when parents decide to stop parenting and just throw cash and their kids and tell them to go away this does not build character or integrity in our children. It actually does the opposite. Where there is no moral compass there is trouble.

We MUST instill character and integrity in our everyday teachings as there is no quick fix, quick buck, or quick ascent to stardom.

We MUST take back our government from Corporations and groups like Citizen United or there will be more of the same.

I guess I don't understand people hate corporations running government but fail to see the real problem is the government has been running corporations.  Take the government out of corporations and the corporations will have no need to fund lobbies.  I would never bother with politics except those politicians do nothing but interfere with my life. If I had the means would it be wrong to try and influence those truly holding the guns. Any way back to the original topic.

My former roommate defended a car jacking in my driveway. And another friend defended a carjacking at a gas station. My life was not saved but I was able to save the life of another ....all these incidents did happen in Detroit if that makes any difference to anyone

A good place to start is that this all happened before folks:

Teddy Roosevelt broke the Trusts at the beginning of the last century.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidency_of_Theodore_Roosevelt#Trust_busting

Government is supposed to be run by the people not by corporations who's only care is to make $$$. Hint look at our healthcare industry now - 1/5 of our GDP is driven by Healthcare alone and it goes up by 30% a year. So you tell me who will be able to afford it at this rate?

Teddy Roosevelt attacked railroads, look into who made railroad monopolies possible(the government). You mention health care, look up, why government intervention made those cost skyrocket(and is still doing so today).  Corporations are made up by people, and we as people can choose if or not to support those those companies and we make those choices everyday.

Anyway back on topic I also remembered that I once stopped my jeep from getting stolen using my gun!

Then what's your definition of Monopoly? or Plutocracy?

Back on topic, I once scared the crap out of my neighbor with a sawed off...

Brad I generally agree , there are a lot of deep seated problems that need to be fixed but Who has the balls to do it .
I absolutly agree that allowing weapons in the hands of sane people is a good thing Canadas laws on guns are ridiculous , basically any criminal can get a gun easily but try to get one legally & protect yourself !! So the criminals know they have the upper hand .
A lot of times you do not have to shoot just pull the weapon & the situation changes immediatly as happened in the mall in Portland , what day did this happen ?

Brad damn good reply buddy and i couldn't  :iagree: more. You will get all kinds of diferent opinions on this subject. In my opinion it gives Dems (Liberals) more amunition for gun control and reason to take away guns period. What happened is sad and it pisses me off too. Alot of why and how could it questions arise but this isn't the first time this has happened. Thing is nothing has been done to keep it from happining again. My opinion in is arm the teachers and problem soloved my :2cents:
