Another way to solve the problem
THE RIGHT KIND OF MAGIC: A cabbie picked up a student from Trenton (N.J.)
High School and took him to the student's home. It was a quick round-
trip, he was told. When the student got back in the car, he sat in the
front seat and allegedly pulled out a silver pistol. "He told me his
classmates 'almost just killed me in the cafeteria, so I'm going to
kill them'," the cabbie said. "I told him that I knew how he felt, that
I was once in his place, a former rebel in my West African country,"
the driver, an immigrant from Liberia, continued. "I convinced him that
he should wait until 3 p.m. to go to the school because I could get
some medicine for him to make him disappear." The driver believes the
boy thought he had "voodoo powers" because of his accent. He dropped
the boy off at another location, and then called his cab company who
then called the police. The school was locked down, and police arrested
the boy. The cabbie "absolutely played a significant part in averting
the possibility of a tragic incident," says Lt. Steve Varn. (MS/ABC

time.
