71 Wide Fender/Hood Moulding
« on: December 22, 2012 - 11:11:26 AM »
I have a line on a set of these. Not sure of the condition yet, so if folks would hazard a guess for both driver and NOS that would be great.

David,

A set of NOS fender pieces used to go for $300 a few years ago. I don't know if that has changed since PGClassic is offering repros for $275.

The hood piece is not reproduced, and a real bugger to find in good condition. That in itself might be worth $175-$200 in NOS condition.

I think this guy is looking at low four figures. We'll see what happens.

I would expect much higher for NOS hood piece. Some guy had a $2k-ish price on a whole set, but probably didn't sell. I'd say maybe $900 for an entire NOS set-up??

You very well may be right. I have never seen a NOS hood piece for sale.

But it sounds like the seller knows what he has, right David?    :pullinghair:

I'll keep you up to date. I'm trying to get some good pics so I can get a better gauge of what I'm looking at.

So, this guy reminds me of RT Specialties more than anyone else I've ever dealt with. Our conversations have gone like this:

Me: I understand you have the 71 Challenger wide hood and fender trim. Would you be interested in trading for a Direct Connection NOS hood tach?
Him: Sure
Me: Can you send me some pictures?
Him: Of what?
Me: The hood and fender trim
Him: We have hood and fender trim
Me: I know that. I'm looking for pictures
Him: Of what?
Me: 71 Challenger hood and fender wide trim
Him: Yes, we have that

The only difference between him and RT Specialties is that he responds to me  :roflsmiley:

There's a NOS set on eBay at the moment listed for $2k.  :faint:

I have set of the '71 wide trim on my car. I paid around $700 for the set a few years ago, but its definitely not perfect. Chrome is decent, but it's missing most of the original studs that were cast into it that go down through the hood. The problem with the hood piece is that they don't show up for sale very often, so when they do they tend to get a lot of attention on the auction sites. I've seen a few sell in the $600-$1k range depending on condition, none of those were NOS, but that's all online pricing. The fender pieces aren't bad price wise, I see more of those listed too. I picked up a spare set for under $200, I did a little mixing and matching with the complete set I bought. When they're listed as a complete set I the fender pieces are almost "along for the ride", the hood pieces get almost as much by themselves.

That's them. I think I must have reminded him that he had them, so he's listed them again

I'm constantly amazed at people who manage to be successful doing business like that. I think if he was selling grapefruits instead of expensive mopar parts he'd be starving  :roflsmiley:
