Ugly Color Combo.
« on: December 29, 2012 - 05:42:27 PM »
I need some help, I'm in the construction phase of restoing my 70 rt/se u code challenger. Do I keep the F4 green and green roof, and green stripe? Thank God it has a black interior. It is all ready to go back together and starting the body now

You should go with what you like but changing it from original will hurt the value if you sell it. And Challengers with rarer stripe colors are cool. Is your car in my registry?

PS> If you don't have a green vinyl top already they are extremely hard to find.

Being an R/T SE U code it`s fairly rare so going original would add value but it`s your car/your choice.

It would proabbaly stand out better in F4 than just another high impact car

I think I will keep it original. Everyone seems to think it will keep the value. I do agree. No my car is not in your registery. How do I get it in? I have my 70 rt/se Sublime also. but that one is finished and waiting for spring. This one Im working on now Is in its early stages, Ill need as much info as I can get. I do not have a top. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

I like green Mopar's, had plenty of them over the year's including 2 of my race cars.

My '73 Cuda was F3 green with a white top , white stripe and white interior. 2nd owner changed to Maroon body , Black top & interior. Was going to put back to original colors but changing interior back to white would be expensive..

I'll live with it for now...

My registry is for rare stripe E-bodies so it is a small registry. Really not much of a big deal, but I'm probably the only one tracking them. To get in the registry you just need to send me info on the car. Typically people send a pic of the car and the fender tag, broadcast sheet or other documentation. I do not post this info online or in a newsletter. I really don't even track owners names, just the cars. If you don't care to add your car that's cool.

As an FYI ...

I currently have 35 Challengers with the V6F stripe in the registry.
14 are FF4.
9 of those have the green vinyl top.
All of them have green interiors except for the 2 with black leather.

If you want to add your car my email is KGB68@aol.com.

As for the green top I have several friends who have been looking for one for years with no luck. I've never come across one for sale, but I stopped looking a few years ago.

Thanks,
Ken

I do not think there is such a thing as an ugly color combo, i like to think of it more of a more unique color combo, some are just more striking than others is all, but it sounds like your combo is pretty rare and i in fact really like it, it would be awesome back to original, what ever you decide, will be what it ends up, you only have to please yourself at the end of the day, i just know that people do in fact walk up to the more unusual color combos now so they can see fender tags and try decipher stuff on there own. and it is always nice to match up a color in your memory with a paint code once you have seen the real deal, good luck in your choice :2thumbs:

That green isn't a bad colour.

If I was in your shoes, I'd paint it, but leave the vinyl roof and side stripe off. They can always be added later.

I say keep the colors.
Find a different vinyl in the right color and keep an eye out for a correct one.

Can't say I have ever seen a green top in person.

Cool color combo especially with the black interior.

I can so relate to your decision.  When my wife & I first saw my 73 'Mist Green' Barracuda with white top, stripes & interior we both went 'yuck' but it wasn't anytime at all after buying it and getting positive reaction after positive reaction to confirm what I was already beginning to think myself which was 'what a cool original color!'.  I kind of think green cars grow on you, maybe like mold, and no longer think triple black would look better which was my original plan.  If I had your car I'd restore it back to the way it came and then sit back and watch folks help you realize how special your car really is.

For your top, is the correct grain available in white and if so have you thought about having it dyed to match the correct color?  I would think some kind of specialty shop could mix dyes to come up with what you need.  Might have to be redyed at some point if its going to stay out in the sun a lot, but that would just make it look new again.  Just a thought.
