Spot welder and frame rails
« on: December 29, 2012 - 09:20:43 PM »
I have a lencospot mark 2 spot welder that has been in my family for years and my frame rails are all measured up and ready to go. I heard of and seen the spot welder do 18 gage but im curious if anyone has first hand experience with it and if it will do frame rails (the area where they tie into spring perches)

No experience here but you might try spotwelding two pieces of scrap together first
and see what happens. Usually the older stuff has plenty of amps to do what you want.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Thats what I plan to do, i have some stuff thicker than the new AMD stuff to make sure its got the power. I forget what gage the new rails are. I have my fingers crossed. Iv used them on thinner stuff on the duster... I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow.

figured I'd update ya, spot welder don't have the juice for the frame rails but works on the lighter sheet metal, I ended up drilling and spotting and stitching it. I would post pics but i cant get them to go up because of too much resolution. All in all, everything measured up and fit nice. going to start on the Inner fenders and floors next weekend.
