904 or 727 for a 360
« on: December 31, 2012 - 09:03:09 PM »
so I been looking at some threads on this. So what is your take on this. This will be for a 360 pushing around 400+hp. Now if I go with a 727 will my driveshaft be to small since I have a 904 ?If you have a built 904 did you change to a bolt in sprag? Change the front cluth retainer drum? I planned on putting in the wider band 1.75 which was standard for a 904/ 360  and changing the 1st gear to 2.74. I know the torque converter would also have to be changed, Not planning on racing but will be changing tires often. Tires are not allowed to dry rot on Mopars LOL Thanks to all   Dave

I believe the 727 to be a better unit all the way around.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

904 does not use as much hp and is lighter. I have never had a 727 explode on me. Found this in my research  :clueless:    http://forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=2167

I have a good friend of mine with a 75 Dart with a well built stoker 408 full out drag car. He runs a 904 in it w/transbreak and his car runs well in the 9.90's in the quarter mile and has had no issues to speak of. Ill tell you exlackly what he tells me, as long you put the right upgrades in the 904 you're good to go  :2thumbs:

For my mild 360 (~350-400hp on desktop dyno) I went with a Cope Racing Trans 904.  I called John up and he suggested the stage 2 build.  Works great behind my 318.  Dropping the 360 in soon (not soon enough!)
