Brad, the K-frame is a '74 unit.  It has two posts that stick up on it.  I have no idea why they were added.   You can machine them off and it will look like an earlier unit.

Ya this one has that too. Wonder what it was for? :clueless:

Looks like it will work for me.  Mint is not necessary for me!!!

Lets chat about what you want to do with it.

Just check it closely around the LCA mounting area for cracks. Good idea to have it sandblasted first to see exactly what you have.
I don't know how close you are to Eramosa Jason, but there's a guy up there that does all my blasting.

Or Fishburn/Proctor right off the 401, but he's a little more money.

Does anyone know what the extra metal is for?

Did all 74 e bodies have this?

I don't know what they are for.  I do know that the 74 cars had several reinforcements that were not on the other years.  They had 1/4 inch plates mounted on the inside quarters over the quarter windows framing.  The rear floor and the roofs were reinforced.  Maybe it has something to do with that.

My '73 had those too. Just seemed like extra weight to me so I removed them. They were just screwed on.  :sly:

I know, I know, I'm always asking for pics.

Got any of this?

I am unsure of exactly where and what you speak of (write of) .   I would very much like to see the factory reinforcements.
If the factory did the reinforcements, there must have been problems with those areas in the previous three years 70-72.
Would these reinforcement plates have helped with cracking paint on the body?

Not trying to hijack this thread. But Jas seems to have figured out his problem.

I have pics.  I'll have to find them.  If you are talking about where the roof meets the quarter, maybe. One reason for reinforcements was due to stricker crash laws in 74.

crash laws.  Of course.
After a few years of having the cars on the market they figured out how to make them safer in a crash by putting a few metal pieces on.
Interesting.

Here are pics of the inner quarter reinforcement plates.  You can see in the last pic how the factory put attaching holes in the body. The other pics are on a CD somewhere.  I can look for them tomorrow night.

Thanks for the pics.  I had no idea.

Does anyone else have pics of the other areas.

The roof reinforcement and the floor reinforcement.

So, i'm curious as to how the tabs on the k frame would have helped in a crash.
They must have been for something different.  It looks like they did not have an area for further bolts up on the tops.
Dodj had removed them as they were screwed on.

Brad, is the one you have bolted on or are they welded on.
