Just as an after thought folks, I did a little research and Rotella Diesel oil has nearly as much ZDDP as Joe Gibbs break in oil.
Diesels take a pounding, so Rotella is an alternative. I am about to use the Joe Gibbs for breaking in my small Hemi engine.
After that, I'll run Rotella. I have an older flat tappet 360 that has 130K miles and all I have ever run is Rotella in it.
Check on line. Gibbs was listed as having around 1300PPM and in one test Rotella had 1400PPM. Another tested it at 1200PPM.
Anything above a 1000PPM is supposed to be 'acceptable' but I'll go with the bigger number every time, if I can get it.
Having said the above, the Rotella is higher in detergent which will fight the higher ZDDP levels... Its not just about the ZDDP!
Look at the detergent factor too. Also, I would not go the additive route. The guru's say that blened oil is the only guaranteed
way to go. If you have had good luck with an additive, great! I am not going to gamble a $5000.00 engine on $15.00 difference
in a ZDDP blended oil versus a cheaper oil with an additive.... My 10 cents worth....
