No Fluid To Rear Brakes
« on: January 06, 2013 - 10:34:54 AM »
Hello I have a 74 Challenger that is being resurrected, into the brakes but not getting any fluid to the rear brakes. Every thing is new, wheel cylinders, hoses ,  master cylinder, and booster. The master cylinder has been bench bled had no problem with that lots of air escaping and fluid circulating. The only thing that is original is the proportioning valve. Have taken that apart and cleaned all the old crap out and inspected the o rings, all seems good. While cleaning it, I applied air pressure to the front inlet hole and had air coming from the two outlets. The only way I could make air escape from the rear outlet at the bottom was to remove the large 7/8 nut on the side that has the 5/16 diameter spring inside. Only then will air come from the outlet, put it back together and no air, put it back on the car and no fluid. Front brakes are not a problem, just a gravity feed will do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you take the prop valve completely apart?  Something is sticking inside.  Check out this pic...did you take it apart this far?

make sure you have the hard lines @  prop valve  installed correctly ....

I made a mistake and had the same problem.

Yup, had it completely apart had all those pieces in the pic on the bench, and all the lines are in the correct position, going to try it one more time if not going to mount a willwood valve. Thanks for the relies and the pic burdar

Well there is now fluid to the back brakes. Anyone that has a problem with K/H oem proportioning valve that cant be fixed, the wilwood valve is a great thing to use. Just take your time and think where to best put the valve, bolt it in place and give'er. Bolted mine on just below the original hole in the inner apron, there is an existing hole already drilled. Remade the left front brake line, spliced a short piece of 8 inch premade brake line, with a couple of bends, and using a inverted flare coupling, fastened the right front  brake line. The rear one, cut of the 9/16 inverted nut from the exsiting line, mine was just long enough, and reflare on a 3/8 nut, supplied. Mount the master, cut off the 9/16 inverted nut from the front master cylinder line and reflare on  a 3/8 nut, supplied. Do some engineered bending and twisting and there  it is done. 2-3 hours tops and you should be in business. Took of the supplied brake switch and plugged it with 1/8 pipe plug. Dont need it, brake light switch is on the pedal. Wilwood number is 260-11179.
