Shaker sitting too high? Motor mounts?
« on: January 08, 2013 - 01:03:42 PM »
I was reviewing the "Shaker too low" thread and wanted to share a similar or opposite problem.  I did a conversion to shaker with a flat hood on my 70 Challenger.  Now has a 440 4-bbl with the shaker base from Dave at Roseville.

I suspect that my issue is caused by aftermarket motor mounts.   Has anyone experienced this issue and discovered a difference?   I used original mounts and isolation rubbers from Rick Ehrenberg of Mopar Muscle.

Thoughts or ideas?   I was thinking that I need to get the carb throat of the shaker base cut down about an inch, but don't want to do this if unnecessary.

Are you sure you don't have the "B" air cleaner? They sit about an inch higher than the "RB" housing.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

You could have a 383 or 340 shaker base. Also the intake/carb set-up might be the culprit. Trimming what you have might be the best idea. :dunno:
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

72Cudamaan ...... I was wondering this myself.   I did check with Dave at Roseville.   He believes I have the correct one.   If the other ones are shorter, perhaps I should simply swap for the 340 style .... or whatever is shorter??   Perhaps I will fire a PM to Dave again?

As for the intake.  It is a Edelbrock CH4B ...... I was told a couple of years ago that they would work with the shaker.   That is why I went this route.

Carb .... is a Holley.   I check with Performance Improvements and they told me that the Carter and the Holley I have are the exact same height.

The plot thickens .....    Hate the thought of cutting it down and removing a 1" section to maintain folded lip at the carb.

Thanks guys ......  CHAPS

BRAD ..... thanks for the link to Nick's Garage ..... wow .... lots of variations.  Unbelievable ....

With the "B" version, the carb horn sits flush on a table surface. With the "RB", the carb horn is off of the table surface thus making the
housing sit lower.
If I cant fix it, it's broke
