Trunk Seal Placment

Is the correct placement for the trunk seal, and where should I place the seam.

915 heads (mild head work, stock bottom end 10/9:1 compression)
A518 2600-2800 Stall
4.10 rear gear
TTI headers with 3' exhaust with  X pipe 
comp XE274H cam
Hughes Roller Rockers

Holley Street Dominator intake
MSD ignition

I belive the seam gets centered on the trunk latch.

The "V" groove is to the outside, and yes, the seam should be about center of the trunk latch.

The two ends meet at the upper top.

Why would engineers from the factory designate to have water and exhaust fumes potentially come back into the trunk?

This issue was brought up by BarryT/A in a thread many moons ago and he stated with pictures as I stated where they meet.

Why would engineers from the factory designate to have water and exhaust fumes potentially come back into the trunk?

this is what i can read in my dodge body and service manual.



the picture is small but you can  save it and zoom in.. but seem like the two end meet on the bottom where the latch is.
1974 challenger on its way..

placement is correct. I placed the seam at the trunk latch. I`ve owned loads of different makes classic cars over the years and never had one with the seam on the top side of the trunk. May not be factory correct but then again, what made all e-body trunks rot out...?

i've cant remeber ever seeing the seam at the top on the e-bodies or the B's that i have had, with water run off with the seam at the top has a greater potential to leak then at the bottom,
I have an un restored challenger that appears to have all of the original seals in place based on being back taped for repaint in 76 and the seam is at the bottom.
