74 Barracuda
« on: January 12, 2013 - 04:35:48 AM »
Hi, New here and just wanted to say hello!, Back in 1982-83 owned a 74 Barracuda, here's a pic of me and my car, more pic's to follow as it's 4:30am!!
Sold the car to a guy in Windsor Ct, would love to know if my car is still around today, I also have a pic of the rear and I added straight exhaust pipes out the back valance
Car originally was a 318 and 904 trans, I added a $90!! 1970 340 which was just rebuilt, guy said he started it and it made a noise, I found the cam in front of the cam was welded and it was rubbing the front cover!!, spent the winter going thru it anyway and a FREE fairbanks 727 which had a blown one-way clutch, my first rebuild of a auto and what I do today is rebuild transmissions as a Ford Sr Master Tech, also had a 4:10 posi that i would change out.

We made a custom pinion snubber that was adjustable, 2 pieces of square tubing that had holes and pin to raise or lower, when that Fairbanks hit 2nd it would hop the rear and chirp nicely!

Bought the car for $1500 had a white stripes, some rust was starting so with the help of a neighbor did all the bodywork myself and he painted the car outside, back then i barely had any moeny and I think it came out decent and body was very straight.
Sold it for $2100 to buy a motorcycle.....mistake!!
Have more pics will scan and post soon

Thanks!, but witout a vin# doubt i would ever know, i have a pic of the plate, was thinking of checking DMV and see if they still have any record.
I saw the car a year or so later and it appeared wasnt being kept up to good, paint had chips etc,  his dad bought it for him and prob the kids first car too.
Ct plate WM-5405 was on it when i owned it.

Appears to be a 73-74 with that front bumper and grille. Short marker light too.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Cool car.  I hope you find it.

Interestingly, My white '74 is optioned almost exactly as yours with the exception of a 3spd manual and no rust. (Arizona car)

GE7 Burnished Red Metallic, (super common in '74) V6W white stripe ect.

I wonder how close the build date and VIN is.

So that's what they called my color?, i dont remember only that we used a centauri? enamel paint at the time, it had some orange peal but waited a month for the paint to cure and I wet sanded it to the gloss you see in the pic's.
It did have originally the wide white stripes on the sides but sanded those off, remember hearing there were around $100 new then.

   Hi Chris!  Welcome!

Cool old car pics, hope you can find your old car.  YOu se one of the other posts?  A guy found his dad's old Challenger T/A in Japan!  He's getting it back too!  :grinyes:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Pic #2 and 3 of my ARII 1/24 scale model car

Phil in New England-Massachusetts  Always thank God for what you have!

Looks good from that pic.  Looks like a non R/T, could be wrong.  What does it have for an engine?  Any other details?  Not bad if the body is solid.
