Very cool '73!! The Miata guy obviously sounds like quite the tool, so that's awesome that you uncorked your BB as you blasted by him!

Sharp and its Petty blue...
How long have you had your car?
My car was stock also pretty much but my friend talked me into going to the track and I was bit by the BUG
3 years ago and so much for much for keeping my car stock
The suspension is so stiff its not much fun to drive on the street unless its a smooth road---drawback

Thanks for the compliment.  Had it since November 2003.  I don't get much time to work on it.  I love cars that handle.  I'll be happy once I just the Challenger on the road.  I can't afford to get bit by the handling bug!!!

get it up to 5800-6000 RPM on the 1.4 mile straight at RA 150 mph

I learned in turn 7 NOT to look at gauges and take eyes off the road the HARD WAY

Its a RUSH and looks easy on TV,,NOT

Thx for looking

Great looking car, how is it stopping from those speeds? I'm building out my newly purchased cuda for the same intent (casual track events) and am worried about stopping. Although Laguna doesn't have quite the same straight away as Road Atlanta.

Stops well now but have not been back to the longer RA course since installing 12.19 inch disks up front. Wilwoods out back , Manual brakes, Im in novice for good reason  so i ease up on rhe corners
My buddy is really good and drives the 5 mile course within one second every lap which blows me away he averages 2.41secs a lap and i am between 3.14 to 3.25 secs. Im all over lookin for the line
I experienced brake fade at a smaller track called Gingermann and boy that will make your Butt pucker!!  :eek7:
I did not know anything about brake fluid at the time and was running HP autozone, But NOW i know about the wet/dry  boiling point, dont expose the fliud to atmosphere. moisture  ect...
WHERE DO YOU TAKE YOUR CUDA AND WHAT CLASS DO YOU DRIVE?

The cuda's and challengers only weigh 3000lbs w AL parts ect . That NSR Nissan 600hp twin turbo is 4500lbs. Are cars are light and you just have to stiffen them up. I think mine handles pretty good but then again im in novice

I found a car club that races at LAGUNA that is devoted to old Challengers and Cuda's. They have there own web site w awsome technical advice  for setting up our cars and suspension modifications, really race and not track days  but I LOST THE WEB SITE AND CANNOT FIND IT AGAIN??????  I've looked high and low,  any id-ers?

I think that stack of papers is not allowing the air/fuel mixure to get to your open element air filter....  :2cents:

That's a hot car you have there!  I'd love to have a race Challenger.  I got bit by the road course bug last year at Watkins Glen.  Cooked my brakes in the new Challenger at the end of the straightaway but that didn't stop me from having fun.  Thankfully our group wasn't as pompous as your Miata guy was.  We did have one guy in a Cobra replica who held up traffic for everyone a few times the first day.  The instructors handled it and it was fine after that.

Now I'm in the planning stages of finding a Challenger or Charger bare shell to build similar to yours for track duty.  Good times! :burnout:
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

Ya I got the same problem with turbo beetles around here! Ha.  Nice story!  I like the Richard "dick" Simmons mental image.  You got a real nice ride!!   I'm from around that area and learned at Road America too!  I absolutely love that track!!  Cool seeing photos!!   Brings back a lot of memories.   Thanx for posting.   R/T
