I've been very fortunate to have some great inside contacts with the Big 3.  I was first licensed to manufacture products for Ford, followed by Chrysler and then GM.  In 2004 my inside Ford contact offered me one of the new Ford GTs at a discounted rate.  I didn't want one at the time, so I passed.  The next year I was able to purchase the first C6 Corvette available in the World!  (I'll post that story tomorrow.)

Anyway, my Friend and long time GM rep came by the office today and dropped off confidential information about the car.  I was able to reserve the first 2014 Corvette that they will receive in September.  It would be great if lightning would strike twice.  (When you see the story about the 2006 vehicle, the "lightning" comment will make a little more sense.)  I will also post a few pages of the 2014 information packet that he dropped off.  I don't think it has been released to the general public so everyone here will be the first to see the information.

Cool!!!!!! That's Awesome!!!!

That interior looks WAY better w/an all-black dash.  Still don't like all the diff AC vent configurations, but whatev.

So...it will be:

Corvette Stingray
Corvette Gran Sport (maybe?)
Corvette ZO6
Corvette ZR1

???

One thing I liked about the C6 GS, ZO6, ZR1 was its flared rear fenders.  Don't think this C7 lends itself to that kind of mod, so...hopefully the more HP models will have more distinct body work to help justify the 20%, 50%, 100% jump in price respectively to the base Stingray.

Have to see it in person for final judgement, but I think I'm gonna like it...again...in black to hide some of the more funky aspects of the car (grille, vents, rear under-bumper area).

7-speed manual stick is impressive, but the rev-matching...the Nissan 370z has been doing that for several years now.

Why did they have to re-use the LT-1 moniker for the base engine?  That LT-1 just harkens back to the C4 vettes (and early C3 of course).

How about instead...LS-4?  Or LZ-1?

That's what I was talking about!!!!  The front end looking too Ferrari-ish!  Still a cool Vette though.

So I don't get it.  Are all 2014 Corvettes called Stingray if they don't have any other designation like ZR-1, Z06, etc... ?  :clueless:

There's not plain Jane, just Corvette?  :dunno:

As is common with me, I'll go against the grain   I like the rear end, and the front looks too generic to me. Generic for a supercar, that is.

You sure?  Z51 is just a suspension option; not a full blown model type.   I mean, it's gotta have flared rear fenders, right?

All the stuff I read online says that the Z51 returns to fill the void of the Grand Sport being discontinued. It is not a cosmetic package though, you're right. I believe Z51 has brake upgrades as well as the suspension changes.

A few years from now they could introduce a Grand Sport or some other gap filler model. Who knows?

For this 50 something male the 'base' Corvette/Stingray with 7 speed manual, z51 package, carbon top, etc. is going to be more than 'hot enough' for me.  I know they'll come out with faster versions but I've felt the pain of pushing things to the ragged limit (& beyond) and now just want a 'normal' supercar to tool around in!   ;D
