There shouldn't be any fender/tire clearance problems on Challengers, in particular, using the 17x9 rims with 275-40-17 tires... front AND rear... there should be plenty of room from the lips (front and rear) and rear leafs.  At the most, only slight fender lip rolling would be required if you have a soft suspension.   I wouldn't install the KYBs... they are weak and not considered much of a performance improvement.. there are many better shocks ... spend a little more and you get what you pay for with shocks.  The back-spacing on the new YearOne rims is correct for both the 8" and 9".. so, the tire should be kept in the same centerline of the original factory rim location... only the tire gets spread out a little more, as well as the extra width of the tire.   (I believe the E-body Cudas have very slightly less fender clearance... thus requiring the possibility of lip rolling just a little bit, but even the E-body Cudas shouldn't have any problem.)

I agree withe everything you said except......the cuda has abit more room as far as width about 3/4 (aproxx.)of an inch on the cars  have and have measured. :stirpot: :stirpot: :stirpot:  I would like to see any other measurements any one else has to comare :stirpot:

Cuda vs Challenger wheel well/fender openings?  Its just been my personal observation over the years with these cars sitting side-by-side... the rear is the main and biggest difference... I've observed the Cudas having a little less width clearance than the Challengers.... This could probably be documented at some car shows... I'd say the difference is only about 1/2 inch (maybe up to one inch max) to the fender lip.... chassis-to-ground clearance being the same and also same exact wheel/tire combos.  Can/has anyone out there do this?

I had to have this talk with my self and I measured and here is what I have you are right the cuda is narrower by about 1/2 inch from this measurement point

Drew...  did they have the same rims/backspacing and tire size?   (by the way, your black Challenger is awesome, especially with the retro front spoiler!!!)    Modyfying the lips and/or fenders (very suttle) can make the car look awesome with bigger meats (IMO)...   My fender lips have been modyfied for years (as allowed per SCCA E/Street Prepared solo racing rules... even full flairs could've been installed for my racing class.. but I had them massaged to still retain a near stock appearance).

 :)

No the two cars have different tires (I plan on doing a swap here real soon to see if they wheels on my chally will fit the cuda), but the measurement is from the inner wheel well so that is atleast close, but yea as far as making tire/wheel combos work there have been some very creative people on here, but for me I like to shove as much tire on it as I can right?.

And thanks for the compliments I really appreciate it alot

Anyone know what happened to these in 17x8? YearOne only lists the 17x9 for sale now.

That is great news, they are a sexy rim. The only thing i see wrong with the Yearone Challenger, is that the tyre side wall is to low, i personally like a taller meatier tyre with taller sidewall.  :2thumbs:

:iagree: I'm in 1000% agreement on their rear tire in that photo.... I order Nitto NT450's 275/50/17's which has a 5 1/2 sidewall height which I hope will look a lot taller. They're 27.83" tall over all.

This is the tyre calculator that i use all the time to help guage what i need in tyre sizes.

When you put in desired tyre sizes, it will give you an image of the wheel.

Hi,
i am a complete new B on these cars, just bought a 71 Challenger.

I have been looking at the Ralley Wheels and i was thinking if the 17"x9" would fit my car... the front and rear end are completely stock, to my best knowledge.
And there´s drum brake all around

what do you guys think/know?
would they work?
You see, a Viking does not care about relationships, women, or anything else that can cloud his testosterone-enhanced brain. He only cares about winning, leading, killing, kicking ass and being a man.

Yes, they'll work. I run a 17x9 with 5" backspace and 275/40/17's on all four corners of my Challenger.

I do have a B body rear end with a 1" spring relocation in the back, BUT, I don't need it for that tire size. You would need it to go any larger in the back though. A 17x9 with ~5" backspace will fit all the way around on a stock Challenger.

I would caution you though- If you think your drum brakes are questionable now, they'll be scary with the 17x9's and big rubber. That's a lot more rotating mass, so my suggestion would be to at least upgrade to the stock 73-up (10.95") disk brakes in the front. I have the later 11.75" rotors and stock calipers on the front of my car, and 11x2.5" drums on the back. That set up works well with the larger wheels and tires on my small block car. I personally wouldn't drive anything with drums on all four corners on the street with any frequency.
