Ok that was my other concern... i would like to upgrade the front brakes to and i have been looking at the Wilwood brakes, these in particular,

but it says that these only Fit OE drum brake spindles only, and i would like to lower my car and was thinking of 2" drop spindles.
So am i right that if i would go for this Wilwood kit i have to use the original spindles, but if i decide to get the 2" drop to, i would need another brake kit?

Am i wrong or what  :screwy:

No not at all...Check out my current project on my web site....I'm using 2" drop spindles from Magnumforce and 12.90" Wilwood front discs....they have a kit specifically designed for the MF spindle :2cents: http://www.alangallantautomotiverestoration.com/1971FC7383.html

You don't need 2" drop spindles. There's enough adjustability in the torsion bars to lower the car quite low without doing anything other than using the torsion bar adjusters. If you still have stock torsion bars, though, you'd need to upgrade the spring rate (larger diameter bars). Which you would want to do anyway if you want to improve how the car handles anyway. 

Although I run 1.12" torsion bars, you wouldn't have to go that big to keep your lower control arms off the bump stops. My car sits with the header flanges 3.5" off the pavement, and I've never bottomed the control arms out on the frame. This is with the stock spindles, lowered using just the torsion bar adjusters. Don't forget to get an alignment when you're done setting the ride height.

As for Torsion Bars, don't be afraid of any harsh ride with stifer TBs... the 1.12s are very good... 1.18 fro Firm Feel are better... I run 1.24... competition autocross and road course sessions and.. driving on the hwy they are fantastic!
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!

The torsion bar adjusters really only effect ride height. Torsion bars are linear springs, nothing you can do to them, other than taking a torch to them, will change their spring rate.

The torsion bar adjusters control the angle of the lower control arm, which sets ride height. The "preload" is set almost entirely by the weight of the car, not the torsion bar adjuster. Even if that wasn't true, the torsion bar spring rates are linear. Meaning, you're not going to change how the torsion bar reacts to a load, only the ride height of the car.

With stock torsion bars, the only real problem you'll encounter with lowering the car is running out of suspension travel. The stock torsion bars don't have a lot of rate, so they need all of that travel. But adjusting the bars doesn't have any effect on that rate whatsoever.

Thanks for the link.  I think I prefer the 40s better.  It seems if your gonna go with new school wheels, the 40s match better.  Too much black rubber on the 50s.  Of course, old school 15s are optimal, but those RWL tires are getting harder and harder to get.
