Convertible E-Body Conversion from Hydraulic To Electric???

Hey Guys,

Has anyone ever come up with a way to convert the hydraulic system on an E-Body convertible to electric?  If so how and what parts did you use?  Thanks

But, there are some tallented individuales that might have, or will now, attempt this conversion.

Look at Duff Norton products.  We use these on equipment that we we manufacture for the food industry.  Some are pretty beefy.  Updating the hydraulics may be a cheaper path though.

Can anyone explain to me why one would want to change something that works well.  I have 4 Mopar convertibles and have owned two of them for over 25 years and I have not had one problem with them.  I just like the fact that something so original works so well from the late 60's and early 70's.  I do not want this to sound like I am being critical and if someone wants to do that then it is okay.

I would imagine electrical set up would put a load on the battery bringing it down.

Probably the designers then considered electrical but came to the conclusion it could create problems for owners.

Makes sense especially when you weigh in with how touchy the electrical system was in the late sixties and early seventies.  Power windows were a real problem in the late fifties and early seventies so the auto makers were real careful about the load they put on the electrical systems.     I know a common problem for my friends in the seventies was they were constantly replacing alternators and regulators.  In fact they often carried extra regulators in case one burnt out.  Of course my friends like to put all sorts of extra lights on the car it wasn't originally suppose to have (decorative in the grill, rt hood, in trunk, etc).

My hydraulic system was pirated out of a wrecked car over 20 years ago.  Still in original condition so it's over 40 years old at this point.  Zero leaks, zero failures.  I have a complete spare setup in similar working condition.  I'm interested in your idea from an academic perspective but I like the fact the original system is functioning flawlessly all this time.  Chrysler used a nearly identical setup on the last generation of LeBaron convertibles so I think it should be plenty reliable.  Is there a specific reason you're interested in this?

Hydraulic...  I've got the manuel artega version.
