Replacing stock ignition.
« on: February 02, 2013 - 10:43:33 AM »
I'm considering to replace my stock ignition system with a Davis Unified Ignition. The only reason for that is to clean up the engine, I do not expect a gain in performance in any way.
Anyone here who has experience with the D.U.I.?  Yay or nay?

Chryco will tell you how much he hates HEI ignitions.  I don't personally have any experience with them.

If your not expecting any gain, stick with Mopar ignition conversion to electronic.  Very simple.  Others also like Pertronix.

And it's got a built in rev-limiter, also acts as a tachometer under the hood with the led lights. For just over $125? Not bad at all as a orange/chrome box replacement

I installed an MSD 6AL, and MSD distributor, and feel like
I gained considerable power, especially in higher RPMs. Also went with MSD wires,
Now run plugs at .060 gap.

Mount the ignition devices out of the engine bay, under the dash.

I've got a Rev-n-Ator. It feels like more power and the limiter is great to have as a security blanket.

The MSD dial-a-just is I think only one or two wires and there's nothing else - and it has a rev limiter. If you are thinking about MSd that would be the one. I runa  alot of 6 series and I've mounted them inside the cabin and under the battery tray. It's pretty easy to hide but there are a lot of wires - so if the goal is cleaning things up it might not be much of a help...
