Auto. er Manual ?
« on: February 02, 2013 - 05:08:09 PM »
I'm seriously considering getting a new (er) Challenger R/T.    At first I was all over the 6 speed. Now I see a paddle shifter for the autos. And a friend with an SRT manual wishes he'd got an auto.   Says it's faster at the strip. And might auto X better. What would you recommend ?  I love to drive...      Thanx, R/T

The Majority of my Classic Cars and Daily Drivers have been Automatics, but my latest project car (a non Mopar) came with a 4 Speed which was really nice and I am now in the process of putting in a Six speed manual.  I'm still a firm beliver in Automatics for Daily Drivers.

Hey Robert,
I work @ a Porsche dealership, so get to drive a bunch of em most every day. Most ,by far, have automatics with  paddle shifters. At first I thought really cool, but I had to pic up a customer`s car last week and it had a 6sp. manual... finally felt like going for a drive again.  Never driven a challenger, so that might give me a different opinion, but I love the close ratio manual box over the auto in the porsche.

I enjoy driving a stick.  I can't imagine buying an automatic/paddle/whatever anything even if it's quicker.

Manual is more fun. It also has the ability to disengage, partially engage the engine with the drive train so more control around corners. Too bad Dodge use a parking brake instead of a handbrake. The gas mileage is better since 6 gear is so tall. You are correct the AT is faster at the drag strip but the manual is more robust. Try both before you buy. One of my club member recently had to take his 2013 RT back to the dealer for AT problem. Have not talk to him since so not sure the outcome.

hmmm...    whatcha think?   R/T

Understand is a Mopar 10, but at that price, you can get a 2013 RT or a used SRT. The new leftover 2012 SRT are now just a little over $40k.

Ya me neither... :icon16:    It's gonna be a stick.   Now the color has me stumped... as usual.   I like the new R/T classic cast wheels on the silver car.   But now I see it comes in a basic black clear coat . No flake....    that with the radar red interior would be stunning....   Also the jazz blue. Anyone see an R/T classic in that color?    Then theres always red... :bricks1:

Red
Silver
Black
Blue....   white...  Hmmmmm    R/T

I can't do it and not get a stick... And it's my daily driver. Ill suffer.  Gotta be a manual.   I went and looked at the silver one. Very nice.  Except for a big dinger in the pass. Door!!! So I'm still looking...  If they fix the dent. And get my out the door for 25 I'd do it.  18k miles.  Otherwise it's new.  Going to test drive it...that will be a point of no return for me.  They sure are nice cars!  I love it!!!!!   R/T

Good luck with your new chally purchase!  I'm glad you decided to go with a stick.  BTW it was good talking to you today, thanks for all the time and info, still bummed i missed out on that duster.  Feel free to build another one just like it, maybe in B5, and sell it to me for the same price! hahaha  Cant wait to see the new ride!
