    Dougs Hemi orange 72 Challenger

    This is my first installment on my journey.  My goal is to have her done before I turn 50 in 2015.    I will try to keep this updated as time goes by. 
    The car: 72 Challenger 318, 904 auto, console,  8 3/4 (2.76 gear)  Hemi orange. Originally white vinyl top and black/white int. 
    The goal: 440, tremec 5 spd.  3.55 sure grip   (stay tuned, subject to change)     :thumbsup:

    Cool!

    Stay organised and take a lot of pictures.(for us to drool over AND so you can remember how everything goes together)  The most important thing however is to come up with a detailed plan NOW.  Having a clear plan/goal in mind NOW, will help you stay on track.  It's easy to deviate off track when you are trying to figure out what you want as you go along.  Oh, did I mension to stay organised?

    2-15-2013   Today was the first day I've really done anything with the car.   I went up to my friend Bruce's in Winchester IN. and we put my 440 on the engine stand. His son Trent and I dismantled the motor and took the block, crank, and heads to Waterfords in Muncie for a total cleaning and magnaflux to check for cracks.   Next week we should find out if we have a good 440 to work with.    I was happy to see the main bearings were original and were date stamped Jan. of 1970.    So the motor has never been down in its life.  There was a pretty good ridge at the top of the bore but we didn't see anything that couldn't be cleaned up.    Man those valves are big.    I found a good lead on a good body paint guy in Greenville so I am going to follow up on that.    The bad news is on close inspection of my floor pans I have alot of pinholes.   Looks like we will be replacing floor plans and trunk.  Will try to post some pics when we get the block back.

    1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

    Love to see it done by the time you turn 50. I have been on mine for almost 6 years and i turn 50 in 2 more years. Hope to have it done by then also.   :2thumbs:

    2-26-13  Heads back from machine shop.  Trent started porting them today.  440 block is good.  .030 over should clean it up.  Crank is good looks like .010 should take care of it.   When he gets done porting and polishing the heads will go back to be milled and deck the block.    Here is a quick photo of the head, he is not finished polishing yet.

     3-2-13  At least I didn't come home empty handed from the Indy swap meet.   Met lots of nice people too.   One piece at a time
