Suspension - paint or not
« on: February 05, 2013 - 10:31:49 PM »
I am in the midst of a front suspension rebuild on my cuda, and I am not sure how to finish out the various parts and pieces.

One part of me says to paint everything black and be done with it...but that seems to be the lazy / uncreative way out.

The other part of me says to create some contrast and at least losely follow the factory "finishes".  If I do, I am not sure if I should use paint to reproduce the natural finish or use RPM or similar product.

The car is a hot rod, so I am not worried about factory correctness, but I do not want it to look thrown together either.

SO, any thoughts?

I just used spray bombs? Black on everything except the LCA's. To try and mimick the cosmoline I spray painted them a gold colour?

On my street cars I either leave em natural or spray bomb em black for simplicity. My race cars got white or grey wherever possible. The lighter color made it easier to notice bends, breaks, and defects in the sometime less than stellar lighting at a race track.

I sprayed everything semi gloss black. I can appreciate a nicely done 'correct' suspension, but on a regular driver like mine, it's a waste of effort.
Depends on whether you want to display your car at shows with mirrors on the ground for admiring the underside.  :2cents:

definately a driver, I do attend a few shows each year, but no mirriors here.  I think that is where I am leaning, its just not worth the effort, and cost of RPM to detail the suspension, when it will never be seen.  I think I will just clean everyting up and spry it flat black!  :dunno:  maybe... :roflsmiley:

I used chassis saver on mine.  This is my first time using it but I've heard good things.  I'm definitely not going to be in the mirrors under my car category though unless people want to see factory style undercoating(if I can find it).
