Shaker kits currently on the market
« on: February 07, 2013 - 05:56:28 AM »
I would just like to ask the question, of all the current vendors producing* shaker kits, who's is the best and what are the pros on cons of each?

I would in particular like to know how Ben Snobars (shakerhood.com) compares to Gean Gregorys (Illinois)

Also, how do Gean Gregory's hoods compare to the AMD repops?

Cheers, Tim.

Gene Gregory does great ring adapters, shaker baseplates, and bubbles.

Gene's hoods use old hoods, so it's good metal, but could be hard to find in good condition.

I have the AMD repops, and I think they're good.  Spot welds (too small and deep) don't look OEM, but you can smooth those out and create your own fake OEM spot welds (wide and shallow).   Get one w/o a trim ring and get a BEA trim ring (for cudas that is).  Got the AMD one for my Challenger.

Your best bet is to get RestoRick/Domingo shaker conversion and use your own hood and have someone local do it.  Best to have a real shaker side-by-side when doing the conversion to compare details.  I'm doing this for my Cuda.

I wouldn't bother with any shakerhood.com stuff unless you can get an adapter ring/baseplate for cheaper.  Doubt it though.

Thanks Dave. Do I need any grommets for the firewall?
How much will be complete kit with all needed parts for a 4bbl 383 'cuda (71) (except the hood itself)?
Can you estimate the shipping charge to Germany?

I have been over to Ben's shop "Northwest Performance" a few times.  I have a base plate, Adapter ring, and Bubble from him.  His stuff is great.  Had to do some work on the Bubble, but i expected that.  I will be buying the grilles from him also (they have some weight to them, not the plastic crap you see on Ebay).  The one issue i had was with the Hot and cold air doors i bought some repops on ebay, The warm air door kept hitting the adapter when attached to the bubble.  I ground down the warm air door enough to clear it (it still seals just fine).
