Need your advice guys..74 barracuda, leave it or change it...
« on: February 09, 2013 - 03:33:11 PM »
Hi guys , i was thinking about repainting my barracuda to is original color but to keep it a good street ride , tired about the yellow flashy color , its already 10 years ago and i was 17 and wanted to flash ! now im more conservative, low profile look ,  and dont want that kind of attention no more...presently the car is still in good shape but as cracks here and there in 2001-2002 there were no replacement parts for cudas..maybe it started but theres is a lot of bondo on the car , my dad did the frame rails by hand , and hall the 45 body patches ... after 10 years  some of them started to pop out ... its not dramatic but you see that it needs touch-ups and a good re-inforcement ,

From factory Its coded kL8 dark moonstone metallic , , white stripes , kl8 color , white bucket seats ,E44 , 318 2bbl , 3 speed, now its screaming yellow , 340, 4 speed , 3.23 suregip  , some people think im crazy to change it , but since i have the duster , and its plain jain ... i want a plain jane barracuda , minus the fact that its a muscle car , i dont want to get any more attention with the paint job ! Even the mufflers will be change to lower the exterior sound , what do you guys think about that new look ?

my car was a trailer queen , and i was doing some car shows and the rush of winning trophys etc... i bought it back from my dad , and will swap the engine to a healthy magnum motor , i want a simple looking car that kicks ass ...  ,  i like the fact that people have to double check when im at a redlight because my car is shaking so much and with all that rumble is the car that you notice ... the cuda , you can scream at 1 mile , look at the yellow camaro or whatever people think it is lol , but i appreciate that people like my idea , darkmoostone was hard to choose because i wanted to put it black ... we see to many black , yellow and limegreen cudas...tired of that  :crying:!!! The pictures from the kl8 cuda is what i want minus the vinyl roof .

What do you guys think... :dunno:

Leave it and fix it , or resto-mod and low profile .... :feedback:

I really like the yellow

 :iagree:

You would definitely reduce the attention cross section by switching to the original color.  It looks so good with the yellow matching motor and interior treatments.  It will be a completely different car.

My vote is to keep it yellow, but it'll still be a kickass barracuda one way or the other.

Man that yellow with the trim outs looks great!
Hard one to change.

Moon stone is definitely unique.  Can't say I've seen one out there.
You would definitely be low key with that color.

tough decision for sure.

Love the yellow, especially with the interior accents. The moonstone did nothing for me. I think painting it that colour would extremely lessen it's value.

Nooooooo....

I love your car.  I hate to be a fanboy but I've been headed toward painting mine very similar to yours since I saw your old video and pictures.    :ylsuper:
I was looking to go the original black but looking around... every car is black, white, silver or grey...  don't fall back into the crowd.  Stay unique.

Maybe find different wheels (I'm looking at TSW Valencias - black with polished lip) or something else to change things up a little.   :2cents:

I'd leave the exterior ( maybe black out the tail panel?) but the interior could use some "updating" ?
Less " bling"   Different floor mats?  All black would look cool? Different materials on the seats could  give a nice effect?  Different wheels( all black)? , AAR hood?

Yellow looks good.  I would change stripe to traditional hockey stripe used in 70.

Thx guys for that feedback .. im really thinking about it ... well see , i like the pro-touring effect, it will not and never be a 20 inch car , with efi etc and gen 3 hemi blablabla, respect to the people who does this kind of mods , its incredible and nicely done , but i just love the free-spirit of a carbed muscle car , no computer , no sensor ... my long friend Nick is the guy who builted my engines .. he as a good point , is that you never go wrong , and will never go wrong when you put it back to an original look , not necessary a 100 % correct matching number car , but , my cuda ... nicknamed * Cudz , as won a lot of awards and is truly nicer in person ,,, but i lost of part of it ... i was younger and i dont like people who go see you and scream at all the little imperfections on the car ,,, since 2 -3 years i drove my duster on primer , and now its painted  , plain jane white and i love the fact that nobody gives a *hit about it ... at least when i start the key on .. they see that when i say its stock.. doest mean that because it looks stock , that its truly stock , get it ... the f.a.s.t class understood that really wheel , since my cuda sounds like it as 800 + plus horsepower and as barely more than a respectanle 400 , for a small block , it did a lot of damage in 10 years .. once i was so fed up that i nearly jumped in the rat rod scene and admired those guys with flat and scratched out paint jobs ... because they really enjoyed their cars ... a trailer queen is over  for me , sorry guys for my big story but , maybe ill keep it yellow for now because i cant afford it right now , but .. i think that with time .. a kl8 ( unique ) 74 barracuda , will still be in my mind .. even though of pushin a 318 , E44 package  , 400-500 hp  teener , sleeper is always fun ...  ;)

Now that im thinking about it, if it was mine, i'd leave the yellow, black out the rear panel like Brad said, then i would slap those black wheels on it, i think that would look sooooooooo sweet      :cooldancing:

Sweeeeeet four taillamp mod you got there. I just finished doing this to my 73 Challenger, it was NOT easy,as the housing mounts are physically different. Nice idea where the B/U lamps are. Question. If you go to moonstone, will those hotazz babes still want to snuggle with your paint?

Okay, after watching the video, I can understand why you might want to tone it down.  It must be difficult with all those hot young ladies coming up to the car and draping themselves over the fenders and doors.

I think you ought to just leave in in gray primer.   :clapping:

I think it looks fantastic the way it is now. You should know that yellow disappear in a crowd of taxis, not easy for the cops to spot you.

Well, not to be contrary for contrary's sake, but; I like your idea about the moonstone colour and the examples you had were very nice. It's kind of cool that by going to that colour, you could be less conspicuous AND unique at the same time. As you say, the car has a heavy older vibe and it'd be a ton of work to erase it, but it's your car, so do what YOU want to. Just my  :2cents:  Good luck
