Planning the ultimate US roadtrip for 2014, suggestions please.

Gentlemen.
During the cold winter mounths, we either wrench, or dream right?
Maybe both ?

My dream is to spend 6 to 8 weeks in USA, come summer 2014.
PLEASE, can you give me a few suggestions where to go ?
Ideally what I'd like is a "route" which will take me from one great car show to the next, preferably with a few nice places inbetween.
If I'm lucky, I might get the chance to meet some of you guys?

Since I'm not from the US, things which might be obvious to most of you, will be all new to me.
So again PLEASE take a few moments to guide me in the right direction, like a calender of events, or similar.

Who;
At the moment, I plan for this to include me, my wife, and our son (5 years old).
I'll tell you a bit more about myself and my rides as (hopefully) this tread develops.
As I assume you love pics as much as I do,...I'll throw one in each time...


Where;
Well, this is NOT decided yet, and will depend on what I believe to be most interesting.

Distance;
You can cover quite a bit of distance in 6-8 weeks....
This can be a round trip, or start/stop at TOTALLY different places

Ride ;
Well, I just MIGHT be crazy enough to bring one of my cars with me....
This will cost and arm and a leg, but will be a great contribution to my photo album.
Another option is to buy say a stationwagon from the late -60s or early -70.
Then sell it with a loss afterwards...
..this unless I can use it as a starting point for making the SWEET cuda-wagon I saw in another tread here. he he..
Suggestions appreciated,...but I'll come back to that part next year.
The last option will be to rent a car.....

U can rent a new challenger R/T from hurst, that might be a nice compromise

I don't know about the whole trip, but if your coming through Colorado, you need to go visit Bishop's Castle.
It's North America's largest one man project.  Jim Bishop has been working on it for over 40 years.  Alone.
Absolutely beautiful scenic drive and only a short trip off of Interstate 25. 
If your in Colorado, I would be glad to show you some spots here.

I would say come in July and hit the Carlisle show in PA,  hit a few cool spots around that area, then 3 or 4 weeks later, hit the MOPAR nationals, the next week after the Nats, cruise to Michigan and hit the Woodward cruise or on the same weekend is a large MOPAR show in Canada? Either one is cool!

I second for Carlisle, although it's usually hot as hell. Also second th Woodward Dream Cruise in August.

If you're into nature - the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Badlands National Park are place I would look into. Whale Watch cruises in Provincetown, Mass. Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky.

If you're into history - the Smithsonian in Washington DC, Savannah Georgia for architecture, the USS Constitution in Boston, the USS Olympia in Philadelphia,

If you're into culture - New York City for theatre (Chicago is also good), Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

Wow you guys sure know how to take time off and have a good time you might want to talk to Roland (66Palerider) he brought his car over here from Rotterdam ,Norway,

he traveled almost 10k miles in his chally I joined him here in Denver ,we had a blast see our link on this site and also we are planning a big V.P. trip in the summer/fall of 2014 we should have 5 people coming from the U.K. and Ireland

Try to hit up some of Route 66 .  Seems like that Is the    Number 1 thing to do on bucket lists. 

This is a great suggestion. I will add that I've driven most of what's left between Chicago and St Louis, and its underwhelming. From the pics I've seen I'd look mostly at the New Mexico section.

I don't know what I was thinking, but I didn't list Disney World or Disneyland, the Happiest Places on Earth (c).

Another option is to buy say a stationwagon from the late -60s or early -70.

I just saw two of these for sale this past weekend. A 67 Newport with a big block for $5000 and a 74 Coronet with a small block for $3450. Both in running, driveable condition with no rust. Would be hard to loose money on a deal like those, but timing and location are big factors.

If I remember right it was just under 7 K USD to ship Rolands car back and forth

and 12 mpg will be the result of most of these cars so keep that in mind for costs,

However it might be cheaper to buy a car here and insure it here.

 Roland went through alot of hassle to insure his car and he only ended up with liability policy for 1500.00 bucks with Chartis and they have been bought out so remember Insurance is needed too
