New or Used ?
« on: February 17, 2013 - 05:22:27 PM »
I'm undecided on which way to go... Always thought "Never buy a new car" they depreciate in value as you drive them off the lot. And at first was only looking at 2011 or newer. I like the lower valance.   The dealer quoted me 32K$ for a 2013 R/T classic. Used prices for a low(er) mileage 2011 are still at 29-30K$.    Not sure on buying a car with over 30,000 miles on it for 25K$ er so is worth it.   And what better car to be the "original owner" of ? Then I know it's been broken in properly and maintained. The full warranty. Low(er) % rate.    I've seen used ones going for more than I can get a new one for. But all I've ever heard is go used and save $.  Any thoughts?
I'm planning on keeping the car for a long time. In the process of saving up a bigger down payment right now.   Never owned a car newer than 1991 and have my heart set on a black R/T plus or classic. Super trac pac. 6 speed, heated leather.    What would you do... New ? or Used ?   and why?   Thanx, I'm real excited!  It's not a question of if, Only of when I get one. They are easily the coolest new cars on the streets to me.  Every time I see one I tend to freak out a little...   R/T

I always thought I would never buy new again either, but the value of these doesn't seem to drop when you drive them off the lot.  New might be the smarter way to go...

If ur going with a 2011 or up RT, might as well go new, the damn things are still hovering around $30k with low miles, my parents just came to visit last week and my sad rented a 2013 challenger RT, damn thin averaged 27.8 mpg from Denver to here (220miles) with the cruise set at 78mph!  Normally I'm all for 1 year old low mileage purchases, just doesn't seem to be worth it with new RT challys.  Just my  :2cents:

The Cash for Clunkers program has kept the used car market high.  Used car prices have stayed up due to less used cars available.  This will go away in a few years.  Anyway you shake it though, a new Challenger is a good value as far as I am concerned.  I think that they will hold their value because when Dodge does a refresh, it will most likely make the car smaller, more pointy, and less cosmetically like one of the original challengers.
