Dana 60 question
« on: February 19, 2013 - 07:53:57 PM »
I know there is a Dana 60 sticky above, but it doesn't apply to my question. I saw an add on Craigslist for a   9 1/4" Mopar rear end new in the crate (wow). Please click on the link and look. The rear end cover looks like a Dana 60 which is a 9 3/4" rear end. The 9 1/4" rear end cover plates that I have seen are NOT symmetrical, but the Dana 60 rear end cover plates ARE symmetrical. I asked the owner some more detailed questions, but haven't heard back. I just wondered if someone here that is more familiar with rear differentials could give this a look-see and say what type rear end they think this is??  :dunno: :clueless: I am hoping it is a Dana 60.

that is a truck 9 1/4 it isn't a bad rearend and can be cut down for pass. car use. see mopar actions web page rick has this done. every dana 60 rear end i have ever seen always has the screw in fill plug on the rear cover not the plastic push in plug like the 9 1/4 & 8 1/4 rearends.

:iagree:  Definitely a 9 1/4. I asked Dr. Diff about using a 9 1/4 and he suggested not to.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

All Dana diffs have a 10 bolt cover unless they are in a newer Savanna Van. The 9.25 Chrysler is a 12 bolt cover. The 8.25 is also a 10 bolt cover but is small in comparison and rounded.

i agree i wouldn't spen the money on one either i would just get a dana from cass. the lack of a pinion snubber is one reason put you can get around that by welding a setup on the car to bump on the rear housing but thats kinda rigging it up to me. the 9 1/4 in my dakota 4x4 quad cab has been a good one 152,000 and still going quiet as a mouse!

Thanks for the reply guys. I was comparing the covers (9 1/4 and 9 3/4) and that's why I thought maybe a good deal. I'll keep looking!! :2thumbs:

I have a dana 60 here, with the car flanges welded on, 410 gears and a 35 splind spool. It is cut down to B body length now.  Needs the gears installed and a set of moser axles. I have the spring perches to. If YOU!!! want it maniac, yer welcome to it for 600 bucks.  I'm doing another 373 gear 35 spline powerlok for Don's, car, so I don't need this one.  This is a dana 60 truck housing with new parts, bearing and all...

Thanks Alan. I'm still using the 8 3/4 pumpkin with 3:91 gears you sold me a few years ago. A 4:10 is a little too tall for me and I definitely don't need a spool. If I lived in Al, I'd probably buy the housing from you. That's a great price. I'll have to pass this time. Maybe one day I get out your way and stop by & buy you a steak & beer!!  Sounds like Don's car is going to be a brute!!
