Hey, Phil

While this was "my idea," in a manner of speaking, I have very little to do with this show. I had had the same idea separately, and I just tried to help them along with publicity when I found out they were ready to go. I hope it succeeds.

I'm doing well, and in one piece. This last 10 or so days I've been on vacation in Paris and Amsterdam. So, I can't complain at the moment  :grinno:

If anyone else is going to be there besides me, please let me know and we'll see if we can find a way to meet up somewhere.

I guess I didn't pay attention to this post because I had no plans on being in Disney that weekend. Well plans changed and here I am sitting in my hotel at port Orleans in Disney with my wife and daughter. I googgled local car shows and dream cars comes up, bonus it's not going to be all Mickey all the time.

Enjoy the show, and say hello to the organizer for me if you find her.

I think Tara is involved. Not sure, but if I see her there, I'll wave for ya.

You're not the first person I've heard say that. I'm disappointed that they squandered a really great opporunity. Apparently, a large operation decided that it wasted to take over running the show, but then got cold feet and tried to half-a$$ the whole thing.

I may try to get in touch with them when I'm back stateside and see if this idea can be salvaged. They have annual Flower & Garden and Food & Wine festivals which are very popular. They generate lots of income and get people into the parks who come for the festivals. I think this idea could generate just as much for them, but they don't know what to do with it.

Being a person that lives here I have something you might bring up.  The very succesful activities you mentioned are held on the main Disney properties, not on the external Disney Vacation Club properties which are nothing more than timeshares to me.  I think this is what caused the problem. Disney wasn't directly involved.  If they had been this would not have happened.  Just my  :2cents:

Thanks for the advice. I think it's a complex situation. I know that when I started dealing with them, once I finally got a person to talk to, it seemed like they were looking for someone to take all the risk and provide all the labor, and they would make all the money if it were successful. When I was trying to run the thing myself, they told me that they wanted me personally to guarantee several hundred rooms. I tried to make it clear to them that I wasn't looking for a job, and I just wanted to help them put on a good show.

I agree with you on the DVC properties. I wanted them to hold it in the Magic Kingdom parking lot, which is about the size of Rhode Island and very rarely fills. I thought this would boost attendance, as some people would stop on the way in to the Magic Kingdom, others on the way out, and still others would take a break from the MK during the day to check out the cars.

I think they held it at Coronado Springs, which makes a little sense as it has convention facilities. Unfortunately it's out of the way, and if people weren't really specifically looking for it they'd never just happen across it.

Dealing with them can be very difficult.  Being a car person, I would LOVE to see a big car show there, but I doubt I would have the patience to deal with the powers that be.  The number of people that showed up for this was unbelievable.  They actually had announcements on the radio stations to avoid the area because of the traffic blockage.  I was on my way but turned around when I saw the carnage.  That is one reason I think this could be a real success if Disney actually understood the draw that classic cars can generate.  I think they seriously underestimated the excitement, traffic and the number of people that would come.  You are a brave man to tackle something like this.   :worshippy

Not really brave. I love cars and I love Disney

I'm going to be there in October. I may drop in and have a word in person if I can arrange it.
