'70 Challenger E-Body Door Latch Striker?
« on: February 24, 2013 - 10:56:27 PM »
Does anyone know the correct finish used on the door latch striker?  I need to do something other than paint (since it's obvious it gets scraped off from metal-to-metal contact).  I'm sure they were plated, but other than re-plating, is there anything else that can be done (regarding re-finishing) that will resist this kind of wear?  I've attached photos of my striker, and some photos of others that are offered for sale.  The ones on my car have a head that uses a hex key, but I see that there are others with a head that use a star wrench.  Which is correct for an E-Body?  Thanks.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Thanks Dave.  I'll consider buying a new pair after I've had a chance to see what mine are like after I've taken the paint off of one of them.  Do you (or anyone else) have any ideas on why there's a difference in the heads of the striker (i.e. hex key vs. star wrench)?  Thanks.

I think some earlier A Bodies and B Bodies used the Allen head. I've never come across Allen head on an E Body, but I haven't seen every one ever made :drunk:

I rebuilt mine because I couldn't justify the expence of new ones.  I sent the bolt, washer and insert to the platers with the rest of my fasteners.  They are supposed to be brown phosphate but mine are now silver zinc.  The rubber bushings(for lack of a better word) were shot.  I never found a soarce for new replacements.  What I found is that late 70's to early 80's Dodge trucks used the same stricker.  I went to my local junk yard and found some great rubber bushings in wrecked trucks.

original on the right...replacement from a Dodge truck on the left

Dave,  are the NOS door strikers $35.00 each, or $44.00 each (as per your website)?

35 is member pricing, but if you want to pay the 44 per thats cool.

I asked Mike at BE&A about remaking the rubber bushing.  He said there was no market for it...

Thanks Dave.  How do I go about placing an order with you to get the member pricing?
