The owner of this shop is quite a celebrity with his own show and being a guest of other shows.  I think its way over priced, in Hemi price territory.  Im sure it is an immaculate car.  As far as pricing, if you have the money and willing to pay that price, then its worth it.  Basically up to you.  Im sure there will be many that will say its priced right or to high.  I know that is not the final price since he often deals on his cars for sale.  Peter Klutt is the owner Ontario, Canada.  Seems like he knows his cars and likes well documented ones.

Cough...
IMO its worth half that. At least to me anyways.
For $65k you can find some real nice # matching cars with big blocks, which is what these cars are really all about.  :stirpot:
We can talk all night long about other incredible e bodies you can buy for even under $100k, but in the end its all about finding just one buyer who has to have that car.

(Option/colour/engine wise) What is the ultimate 1971 Challenger Convertible that was available from the factory ?

IMHO it's in the ballpark

Factory purple/white/white with #s matching 340 & 4-speed.  Very few 340 4-speed ragtops known to be produced (~19 or so)

This yellow one sold last year for $126K and is now back home in Canada.  And the underside had not been restored (undercoating) and the restoration was older.  I'd still be happy to own it.

I am actually surprised that a car of this kind actually came to public offering and wasn't sold to a private collector quietly
I love the 340 cars and that is a very nicely optioned car :2thumbs:
What are your thoughts about the asking price Alan?
I can't afford it,but do agree that its price and value would be in that ballpark.

I believe that the yellow one is in BC now.

Somewhere in the archives I have papers for the yellow one when I could have bought it as a project for about $10K.  Back in 1996....

Gorgeous car but even if it`s one of the nicest in existence it still seems like a lot of money for a 340 car.

This is where it gets interesting with '71 Challengers.

Unlike Barracudas, there was no 'Cuda type (R/T) option available on the ragtops, so the largest engine available for order was the N-code 383 4bbl.

Now it seems that there are more 383 ragtops out there (2 & 4bbl) than there are 340s, so unlike in a hardtop, the small-blocks often pull a higher price.

Plus the 340 was only ever offered as a performance engine whereas the 383s were in everything.

4-speed trumps automatic
non A/C trumps A/C
high-impact colour trumps others

Knowing this car very well, I would have to say that it is one of, if not the finest '71 Challenger ragtop of its kind.  And it is unquestionably 100% numbers matching.  One could not buy another '71 340 ragtop in the current market and restore it to the same standard for less...

If I weren't busy with some other purple Challengers ('71 and '13) then I'd probably make the owner a serious offer for the car - it's that good.

I think the price is top dollar without a doubt.
I know for a fact the restoration cost a lot more then the asking price...EVERYTHING is new....

In my opinion.....It's the ultimate 1971 Challenger convertible.

High Impact paint
340
4spd
white interior
shaker hood

Not much better then that. :droolingbounce:

Was that the one that was always around $20K - getting trailered everywhere?  But needed everything?
