Changing heads
« on: March 03, 2013 - 08:14:35 AM »
I had planned on rebuilding the 440 over the winter, but it didn't happen. Is it ok to stick new heads on the 15 yr old rebuild or should I leave them on the shelf until I do the rebuild?  :dunno:

Firstly 15 years means nothing , my car has had maybe 200 miles in 15 years LOL
you really have nothing to lose by putting the heads on , if the short block is weak it may burn some oil if the rings are weak . Is the head swap an upgrade to a better head ?  If they are alum heads I would use a cometic mls gasket

I hear ya. In 15 years I probably have less than 10k on it.
440 stealth heads. Heads on it now are I think if I remember, 452's. It is a 76 engine. The main reason the rebuild didn't go ahead was me dragging my a$$ aquiring a forged crank/short block with a forged crank.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"
