Cuda in the Movie Two-Lane Blacktop (1971)

Just watched the old movie from 1971 Two-Lane Blacktop . Theres a Cuda in the opening seen drag racing the '55 cheby ;does anyone have any more info on that car what year , motor or how could it possibly lose to that cheby. Looks like a 70 with a stripe or moulding down the side.

Certainly a 70, and if it was a Hemi, certainly believeable that a built chevy in a lightweight body could whip it. But since the movie is about the '55, did you really think anything would loose to it?

  GREAT movie.i watched it a month or so ago and at alot of the drive in shots had alot of mopars.i remember in one scenehe said something like 'theres one of those AAR CUDA'S,WE HAVE TO STAY AWAY FROM THEM"

Cool movie.  At first I thought it was an AAR? Check it out at 43 seconds in.  But at the end of the race crossing the finish line it does look like a 70 with side molding as you mentioned.

FYI-That Daytona Charger in the beginning was the King Daytona owned by Big Willie Robinson, Preident of the International Brotherhood of Street Racers.  You can see some of the guys i the movie wearing the vests representing that club.  Willie died last May. 

Also, that's the same '55 driven by Harrison Ford in American Grafitti, just dolled up.

I always though it cool that the very first car you see in the movie, is a Mopar.

The Cuda looks like an AAR
Rear valence no exhaust.
Deck lid AAR spoiler.
Stripe is an AAR.
Stop video and AAR badge on rear quarter.

Thanks Guys for all the new info and history. If i had the $$$$$ i would remake this movie and use cc.com members cars and owners to act the parts. Anyone want the leading roll . I think i would use a 70 or 71 cuda and make it have a one piece tilt nose like the 55. Best to have 340 six pack ,4 speed, flat blk primer ,cragar mags..........well its nice to dream thanks

The antenna is on the front fender.
It appears to be on the rear fender, but as you pause it, the antenna ends up on the front fender.


Never seen the movie, never heard of it.  I'll have to watch it.

Yes!  Kinda weird seeing him as that character.  He seems so earthy and green peace type and yet he's here throwing out hydrocarbons like snow in winter....

Never noticed that before, but your right. Its an AAR an the start, ( you can see the strobe stripe and badge), but something else with a molding line at the finish without the strobes and badge.

Its not until many minutes into the movie where they are unloading the trunk that Dennis says "that Plymouth had a Hemi". Of course, he also chants "Need to change the jets" like a tantric mantra thoughout the flick as well. Typical hollyweird in that they throw out scenario correct stuff without it always being in the correct context.

I remember watching that movie as a kid in the 70's and thought that was the dumest movie ever but to watch it now its cool Mainly cause of all the cool cars. Lots of Mopars in it
