Good lookin basket 73 Challenger
« on: March 07, 2013 - 04:39:28 PM »
Hey, This is the start of my build thread, I guess its gonna be more of a tear down thread at this point. Some info on what I have and plan.
I had a 1967 mustang coupe, survivor car except one colour change repaint. It was nothing special , coupe, 289 auto but it was the best example of a survivor car iv seen in person, all original sheetmetal and 100% original interior. Never any rust or damage repairs. 89000mi. So iv been wanting an e-bodie for some time  and an ad came up in Ontario for a 1973 challenger for trade with mustang. Pics were exchanged and discriptions were given so I trailered down the mustang from out west (3700 km one way). When I got there I had a look at the challenger and it looked awesome, interior is new, sounds good, but underneath is scabbed together a bit. So I asked for a bit of difference to cover some of the costs of transport. Trade was made but I wasn't feeling the love for this car yet and was starting to second guess what I had done..
First stop for fuel I decided to take the challenger out and look at it and fill er up to make my self feel better about the trade. So full tank of premium, went and paid and come out and its like a movie scene at the pumps, you know, when gas is creeping out from under the car around the wheels right before someone throws a lit cig into the puddle. All $67 on the ground :swear: load up the car and continue.

Got the car home and what a mess in the trailer, every fluid that was in the car, had decided to mark its territory on the floor of the rental car hauler. Oil, coolant, p/s, tranny fluid and some gear oil and of coruse gas. Ok, prof cleaned trailer and returned. Car is in the garage now. Started looking through the interior and decided to remove the floor mats and stuff to vacume the new carpet that was installed. Lifted the rubber backed mats and a web of mossy white mold is growing under all 4 floor mats. :puke:

I do have love for this car, even with its bumpy start so I am going to strip the whole car and start fresh to bring it to the caliber my mustang was. (SO much for a driver trade, not project car lol) . Here is the car as it sits now. Sorry for the rant, I feel better now.

This should be a good thread to read--you definitely have a knack for painting a picture with the words you choose.  Much luck and encouragement with your new project.

Good lookin car!

Can't wait to see some pictures of the workmanship that was done before you got it.

Is it originally red?

Did you get a tag and build sheet?

Thanks for the support.

The interior is all new with very nice seats front and rear, new console, and i belive the dash pad has been replaced also. They did an excelent job at replacing the rear quarters, new front fenders and the trunk lid is new. Paint is very well done. It had some problems with how the carb throtttle linkage and kickdown was hooked up and some minor wiring issues, the speedo is broken and tach doesnt operate properly. Iv got lots to work with, but was hoping for a driver when i made the trade. Oh well, Cant wait to make this the car i want. Hoping to be able to drive it in the late summer.

Good to hear that. My car is the opposite where the structure and sheet metal are all in great shape. However, the interior needs a refresh. I hope to put paint down this weekend and then start reassembly. I got most of the parts but waiting for the dash pad, headliner and rear seat covers.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Iv been reading all sorts of threads on the site and think its awesome how much this forum does in looking after its members and families. Awesome job :2thumbs:

As for my car, I have a temp permit on it and am going to have a guy look at it to see if it is something he wants to tackle. I can do it but it would never get done. My work schedule wont let me put in the time in on the car.Not much else to update at this point.
