70 Challenger A-833 Reverse Light Harness (2-piece?)
« on: March 08, 2013 - 05:41:04 PM »
Can someone tell me what harness(es) I need for the under-dash reverse light, and where to get them?  I believe there are two; one that goes from the neutral safety switch to the bulkhead (firewall/engine bay side, lower/passenger), and one from the reverse light to where (???).  Also, someone  posted on a different thread about clips that attach to the trasmission to hold the harness in place  http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=89703.0  I looked on ebay (as was mentioned) for these by doing a search for A-833.  No such clips came up out of all search results.  Can someone tell me where to get these?  Is that all I would need to properly and completely install/connect my under-dash reverse light?  Thanks.

Would this be all the necessary wiring I need?  http://www.brewersperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=BLH-E&cat=232
I assume the wire/connector that runs off this harness to the under-dash reverse light would go through the firewall.  Where on the firewall, and where can I get the grommet?  Thanks.

That is the external harness.  The circular plug with 2 female ends goes to the transmission.  The large white plug goes to the bulkhead connector (on the engine side of the firewall) and the  grey plug connects to the end of the harness that TopCat posted in the thread you linked.

As you can see that harness has a grommet for passing through the firewall.

Great, thanks.  Any chance you know where to get the harness that TopCat mentioned?

BTW - I found the harness clips on ebay  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-70-71-72-Challenger-Reverse-Light-Wire-Clip-NEW-/170469888861?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b0cc135d&vxp=mtr

$24 US for shipping!! Is that a joke, its so small you could almost email the damn thing.   :swear:

I think I need both parts that you need, I have a 4spd now and the reverse lights work, but not sure if I have that exact harness as my car doesn't have the reverse light on the dash, I have one just need the bulb and harness.

Not sure what the end of the repop reverse lights look like, none of the pictures show it clearly but I haven't seen the grommet either.  Here's one on eBay:

Tony's Parts sells them as well.

It's $2.00 shipping for the ebay clips.  You need two clips.
Here is one place for the external harness  http://www.brewersperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=BLH-E&cat=232
Here is another place for the external harness and the internal wire.  I assume the internal wire has a bulb socket at one end, and a connector at the other end.  This wire runs through the firewall and connects to a connector that is on the external harness.  "70 Dash mounted reverse light wiring with correct grommet"  http://www.evanswiring.com/catalog.htm

What is the "clutch safety harness" and where does it run from/to?

Attached is a photo of my repop under-dash reverse light.  Obviously, there is no connector and no firewall grommet.

International shipping to Canada is $24US, each additional item is $2.   :dunno:

I will have to check my harness to see if its the one I need, otherwise I will have to get the bulb, grommet, harness to the bulkhead, clips everything I guess.

The clutch safety switch prevents the car from starting unless the clutch is depressed.  It runs from the clutch pedal, it has nothing to do with the reverse light or even the transmission really.

Thanks.  I know this is how mine works, but I don't know if the prior owner used a correct harness/wire.  I'll have to check that out.

No worries! Ya unfortunately shipping is nuts and they still charge me USD lol. If anyone is ordering one and wants to order 2 more and mail them to me I will gladly pay you  (less the $24 though lol)
