70 Barracuda Gran Coupe Refresh

Now that the car is in the paint shop, I've been trying to prep everything I can so the assembly goes quicker when I get her home. I've been spending an hour every morning before I head to work blasting and painting parts. If I were rich I'd have most of this powder coated, but this will have to do for now.

I just did this recently on a guys Dodge Challenger ecently myself, except i am pretty sure he had every single bit of chrome you could possible have on a Challenger, their was a crap load of hole welding, i know that.
Good step in progress Turbo, look forward to seeing each stage of coating getting laid down until the colour is reveiled buddy.

Yeah, these cars have a lot to fill in, especially the gran coupes  with the extra emblems and rocker moulding. I'm removing the turn signal indicators as well, but will leave the hood pins and antenna.

The Challenger i did for a guy was an SE, so just like a Gran Coupe, moulding holes everywhere. Good idea keeping the hood pins, they are a functional part more than cosmetic. Have you thought about welding the antenna hole up and running an internal antenna inside the car, or are you still keeping to an original look with out the extras....

Don't feel like the lone ranger.  That's exactly what I'm doing with my 'Cuda parts.

Finally had a Saturday with decent weather, so I was able to take the car over and have the engine compartment and hood sandblasted. The black paint they painted in the engine compartment was almost as thick as undercoating, so blasting was the easiest way to get all of it out of there. The hood I'm using came from a different car, so I had to have the surface rust stripped off. Turned out nicely, but I forgot to take pictures. When the previous owner restored this car back in the 80s, he had all the body seems filled in with brass, and then cover with absurd amounts of body filler. Since I'm replacing both valences, they had to come off. It wasn't pretty....

I don't get on the site a lot, but looked at your Gran Coupe thread today and you've got a great car. I have a GranCoupe and they are very rare at car shows - Mopar or in general. They get a ton of attention as most people haven't even seen one. I bought my GC new and wouldn't ever let it go, its part of the family. During the restoration I took thousands of pictures of every nut, bolt, wire and paint dob, all documented so if you need a little help, let me know and I can send the pics via e-mail. I never got the hang of posting on this site so email is the best right now.  I know a few other guys with GC's and it would be great to have them all show up at one event. Keep up the resto.

Found this lovely patch of filler on the passenger rocker. Not sure yet if it's just covered damage, or related to the poor quarter replacement done by the previous owner.

Looks like your car has had a quarter put on at some time of its life buddy, that join line is lower than the lead join line by heaps, wonder if the other side was changed out too. But good to see progress my friend. Keep us updated Tyler.

Yeah, the passenger side has been replaced, but the drivers is original. Im curious what else we'll uncover as we keep digging in.
