What colour is it going to be ?

Still haven't totally made up my mind yet.. I'm going to Mopars at the Strip this weekend and will make a final decision once I have seen a few colors in person.

The car is looking great! Wish I was going to Mopars at the strip, have a good time, maybe I'll make it next year. Anyone else from CC.com going that you know of?

Yeah, I go every year. I've always look at it as the kickoff for spring weather, so i'm always looking forward to this show.  I haven't heard of anyone else from the forum going, but i'm sure there will be.

So, can anyone tell me which cars had the cowl area painted black and which ones were left body color? I attended MATS this year and noticed a couple cars blacked out, but most were not.

Most all '70 Barracuda, Gran Coupe, and 'cuda had the black-out cowl.  If it wasn't, then it was probably an oversight by the restorer (typical), same deal with the radiator support - it gets blacked out, but is often overlooked; which can be particularly ugly on a light colored car  :eek4:

I don't know about '71's and later.  most seem to have come body color from the factory (a $$ saving measure I believe)

Motor is coming along slowly but surely. As you can tell, we've been doing a lot of motor assembly this winter in the heated shop. The hemi is for my dads 68 charger, and the baby 2.2 is for my CSX.

Wow that motor looks great! :2thumbs:  What kind of finish/paint/etc. did you use on your headers?

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Thanks! I use a product called stovebright when I refinish exhaust manifolds. It is a high temp paint made for wood burning stoves and BBQ's. It charcoal in color, has a very subtle metal flake to it, and always looks great.

And Vitamin C it is! Door jams, trunk, engine compartment, bumpers, bottom of the trunk and hood, and all of the little incidentals have been painted. We're going to assemble the front end this week and the rest of the exterior should be painted this coming weekend. Unfortunately this car had a lot of hidden nightmares under the previous paint job, so we have spent far more time and money getting this ready for paint than we ever expected.

Here is my biggest problem now. My paint guy retired from painting in a local Mercedes dealership and now teaches auto body and paint at a local high school. He is doing all the work at the high school after hours in his spare time. School gets out in two weeks and he will have limited access to the shop throughout the summer. It's kind of stressing me out because i'm afraid he's going to be cutting corners in order to finish it on time. So far things look pretty good, but I can see that he hasn't taped off some areas that I requested. We'll see how things turn out, keep your fingers crossed for me!

Love the color.  My 70 Challenger is a modified version of that color and it looks great out in the sun.

Car was primed and blocked down three times. This is how she sits right now after three coats of color and three coats of clear. The plan is to cut and buff it out and add three more coats of clear.
