brake question
« on: March 10, 2013 - 01:25:38 PM »
hi, i have a 1972 barracuda. it was originally drum brake car. i bought a used 4 speed pedal  assembly. the question i have is the rod that goes into master cylinder the same for a 72 e body as well as a 73-74 e body. the reason i ask is,the pedal goes down to much and everything has been changed. i have a new master cylinder installed with power booster. i dont know what year the e body pedal assembly was from. i thought maybe i have things mismatched. hope this question is not to confusing.thanks

I did something similar to my car.  It was a 1970 challenger.  Had the same problem.  I had the wrong rod length in there until a friend drove it and told me that was my problem.  I'm thinking you are in the same boat.  Someone here can tell you the specifics of what rod lengths were used for drum vs. disc.  Plus the differences in different years.  Changing to the right rod certainly made me feel better about my brakes and help them grab sooner than they did previously.

Check with Roseville or Mancini , they may have the right part or you can lenghten it with a sleeve over top of the weld

According to Brewers web site maual brake pushrods are the same for 70-74 e bodies. Power brakes use a different assembly with a pivot. Looks like they are year specific. Check out Brewers Performance on line catalog.

This was just discussed somewhere on here. 70-71 are smaller almost square pedals, 72-74 are larger and rectangle. No idea why Brewers list several pivot assemblies. I would call them with all your questions and I am sure they can tell you what you need. They are good people. Dave or Jon at Roseville may be able to help as well
