Shaker Trim Ring Gasket?
« on: March 12, 2013 - 04:14:09 PM »
Looking for info on SHAKER trim ring gasket.  I'm thinking about making my own, since I've read about how poor the fit is on those that are available for sale.  Need to know material type and thickness.  I believe they are made of plastic, but what kind of plastic?  I'll just buy a large enough sheet and cut/punch holes.  Thanks.

I found out after I had mine all bolted together that their is suppose to be a gasket. Is their really any problem with not running a gasket? What does it do any way?

Thin bead of RTV should do the same thing.  Who would know?

True, but it's a matter of "sticky/messy" vs "dry/clean".

Can anyone help with the info I'm looking for? FYI - I also found it odd that those who are selling either just the gasket, or the trim ring w/gasket have them advertised as being for '70-'71 'Cuda/Barracuda, no mention of Challengers.

Thanks

For $75, I'd make my on.  Put your trim ring on some cardboard, trace it out, etc., etc.

Yup, that's my plan, but need info on material type and thickness.  I think these are/were made of some kinda plastic, but I don't what kind and what thickness.  I'm sure they weren't that thick; maybe 1/16".

I would guess that it is so water does not get trapped under the ring where it would rust it's way back out.  Don't use any foam type seal or it will be a mess.  The gaskets I have seen are the same material as the plastic gasket on a 73 Challenger tail light that it used along with the foam gasket.
