I hope you are using double flares and what it really comes down to is the tool used to make them. I have been in your situation and I basically threw out the old tool cause it was hit or miss and the new one does wonders every time!

Yeah double flares for sure, I have a brand new tool (lisle) brand name? May have to buy a better brand name one? what make is the one you use? Driving me crazy  :pullinghair:

thanks,  Bruce

These are great flaring tools! I bought mine from Eastwood and flared all my brake lines (stainless steel) with impressive results.  :2cents:

I have and use a hydraulic flaring tool like this one; http://www.toolpan.com/Mastercool-71475--Universal-Hydraulic-Flaring-Tool-Set--_p_2536.html?gdftrk=gdfV27228_a_7c824_a_7c2023_a_7cMAS71475&gclid=Cj0KEQjwjIy5BRClh8m_9Zu64d8BEiQAtZsQfzInk19jTRqEU3t1jf0hmHxZOFGdFs02Xw4l-ikVSjUaAtc58P8HAQ

works very well and gives you very consistent professional results. I have both 37 degree and 45 degree so I can do brake lines and AN flares. Not cheap for sure, but when it comes to brake stull I like to do it once and be done with it. I like most have used the $25 versions for years and as you have found out, they are hit and miss. A good flaring tool is worth the money as far as I am concerned.

Ummm  Yeah.  I've had that problem.  :poopoke:   Just made the same 12" piece 6 times!!   Ha.  Kept trying to make the bends too tight. And rushing it.  Really pays to take your time.  Tighten the clamp all they way. Use a little lube. Get it straight.    File the edge,Ect.    And most of the time you gotta get these connections real tight.  Thats why they make the funny wrenches.  I had a leak at a prop block in the back too. Used a big crescent wrench to hold it so I could reef on it.   :2cents: Good luck!    R/T

I spent the $$$ on the master cool hydraulic tool too after reading about perfect flares every time.  Haven't used it yet, but I have a lot of lines to re-make!

I've broken three handheld flare units and have had 5-6 good flares from it all. Unless you have a holy grail old timer unit from the 40s-70s, the hand held units these days aren't worth two ****s

Any of the good flare tools are not cheap, but they do work and work well. There is a learning curve for the hydraulic unit, so I would recommend playing with it a little before going "live".
