Craziest thing you've done to a car
« on: March 15, 2013 - 05:39:27 PM »
What's some of the crazy things you've done to or with a car? I'm not talking about when you're driving but something crazy related to some car you've owned. Things like this:

When we started a family I was driving a little 2 door Dodge Omni. Eventually we ended up with 3 kids seat strapped into the back seat. It was a little tight. That only lasted a couple months, it was time for something bigger.

On my old 1990 Integra I made a fart can exhaust from Home Depot toilet/drain pvc.  COuldn't afford a real fart can exhaust tip so I made one from a 4" collector pipe.

Looked cool, painted it up aluminum silver and even put a light in it so at night it looked like the exhaust on a fighter jet.

I put a 340 in a cricket. It was too much and the car came apart.

Another crazy one was when I had a limo service with a buddy. We put a couch on top of a limo, tied it down and brought it home.  Thankfully that was before You Tube.

Jumped a 1993 chrysler lebaron across this intersection that had 2 nasty dips in it, everything seemed fine, til i tried to open the door to get out, the front fenders had been pushed back almost 3 inches......oops.  Good thing it was just a test drive :)  I worked at this little car lot in high school washing cars.  Lot owner was a coke head and a drunk, not even sure if he ever noticed, 2 weeks later he was high as a kite, called every employee at 3:30 am on a tuesday and fired everybody.  Killed himself a month later be putting his WS6 into a tree at 145, high on meth, drove straight into a tree like it was intentional, died in the hospital that night........too bad, he may have been crazy, but he was mostly a nice guy, and a straight shooter when it came to selling cars, a rare find in the world of small private owner used car lots in Cali

Back in high school my sister & I had 8 people squeezed into a '91 corolla 4-door to get to school one day...To give you a picture, there were three up front (with belts on), four in the back on the seat, & one had to jump through the window & lay across everyone else.

One of their cars was broken down, so we improvised a little. :misbehaving:

I didn't do this, just heard about it. A guy put an extra windshield washer bottle and pump under the hood and ran the line in under the dash. He had an on board whiskey dispenser!

Fairly common back in the day way to cut holes in the floor ahead of the rear tires and have a buddy pour bleach through the holes for an impressive burnout. Never did it myself, though.

Never heard of that one. You could do that with the windshield washer bottle and pump also. Just don't get the bottles mixed up when you're filling them!!

Embarrassed to say I did two really ignorant things (that I remember) as a teenager.
First, I ALMOST cut out a set of wheel spacers made of plywood. Thankkfully something made me think three times about that one, but the second was tying a buddy of mines front bumper to my rear bumper to tow it somewhere, and needless to say it kept going straight into the trees at the left turn on the end of the block. Got lucky on that one. Come to think of it, Ive been pretty lucky period.
So, whenever I see some kid doing something REALLY stupid, I just think back to my own youth.

and as for things TO a car, many times I removed air filter covers to make more "power" and noise, and when someone broke into my car in college and stole the radio and steering wheel, I drove around for weeks with a pair of vice grips on the end of the steering shaft. :roflsmiley: I'll never forget the look on the face of a lady in a toll booth on the florida turnpike one day on the way home from school. Priceless.
One time it slipped off too  :faint:
Yes....Ive been stupid lucky

I actually combined the two on a '72 340 Challenger I once had. Mounted the extra washer fluid bottle to the trunk hinge bracket and ran the tubing out to the inner wheel-well housings. Filled it up with water and bleach but it didn't work as well as I thought it would because the flow rate was just to low. I would have to sit there forever with the pump switch on slowly draining the bottle until I had enough liquid on the tires to make a difference.

Speaking of highschool autoshop, one day the teacher asked 'what's a universal joint?' Classmate answered 'it's a great big long reifer that goes from one end of town to the other".
