Speaking of highschool autoshop, one day the teacher asked 'what's a universal joint?' Classmate answered 'it's a great big long reifer that goes from one end of town to the other".

I got a wild idea one day and took a saw to a Challenger. The rest is history (see my sig).

not so much a crazy thing i did, but a crazy thing that happened.
driving along one day and came up to a busy intersection in the charger.  without any warning at all, the engine cut out.  so Im thinking to myself "great, why does this stuff always happen on the busiest streets??"  Crank the engine over a few times and it doesnt catch.  Then I see little puffs of smoke coming out of the hood, so i thought i must have a oil leak or something that is burning off the headers.  I get out of the car, open up the hood, and giant flames jumped out at me, damn near burning my face off.  My first thought, which in retrospect i think is absolutely hilarious, was to take my shirt off and start beating at the flames with it.  im sure i looked a lot funnier than it sounds.  this did absolutely nothing.  very very fortunately i remembered i had a fire extinguisher, so i was able to put it out before i lost the whole car.  then i had to push this 4000 lbs car through this busy intersection without a shirt by myself.  that wasnt fun.  turns out the fuel pressure regulator which was mounted above the headers sprung a substantial leak, and since i have an electric pump and never actually turned the key all the way off, i was draining my tank right onto my hot headers.  My pressure regulator is now located elsewhere.  thank god for fire extinguishers!

looking at the charred heart of my most prized possession damn near reduced me to tears.  but thanks to a generous insurance payout we fixed the ol girl up better than ever.  funny how things turn out sometimes.

my first car in high school was a fiat x 1/9. it was a very light car. i pushed it onto the lawn one day to work on it. i went to fast and lost control of it and it went into the brand new house outside wall and caved it in. what a horrible moment. my mom had just married a marine who was very strick and scary. we lived in the desert and he had me sweep the sand in the yard for a month from one pile to another. back and forth about 50 ft.  the worst time of my life. banged up the front end a little, but the house and me got the worst of it.

There is a level rail crossing on the side of a steep downhill on the way home to where I used to live & it was on a 60 MPH highway but it slowed you down to about 25 MPH to cross the tracks , so I decided to accelerate & went over the tracks @ about 80 MPH , I caught air & lots of it , not sure how far I was airbourne but I was driving a 440 Power Wagon with  a 6" lift kit it did what it was designed to do & it landed smooth & straight , really uneventful which is a good thing !!

I jumped a chevy chevette with 5 people stuffed in the car.  X girlfriends car. She was at work.
I was the only one with a seat belt on, so I was the only one left in my proper seat.
Car stopped running as soon as it returned to earth.
worked great for years after that.
