Distributor is 180 Off, can i just flip it?
« on: March 16, 2013 - 12:54:48 AM »
I was working on the wiring today on my never ending project, and I noticed the distributor is installed 180 off.  So the #1 wire is in the rear of the distributor cap instead of on the front on my SB's distributor.  It runs fine, but not having it the "correct" way just bugs me.  Can i just pull the whole distributor unit out and reinstall it 180 degrees to the way it should be without changing anything else?  I can't see any reason this would be a problem, however it is Friday, the drinking has started and I want to make sure i am not overlooking anything obvious as to why this wouldnt work lol

You have to re do the firing order to, or it won't start...have another one or two or three , it's friday  Tomorrow, bump it up on #1 compression stroke, set the distributor where you want it and then re wire it.    18436572  clockwise

yes you can install the dist 180* around & move the wires 180* also & it will work , you will have to reset timing though or mark the body to realign it to the same place
